The moderators have decided to resurrect our original selection method for Monthly Reads. With the new year, we've also added some new components to our Monthly Reads. For some of our newer members, as well as our returning ones, here is a basic breakdown of how our Monthly Read will operate from now on:
♦ On the 1st of the month, a nomination thread will be posted (similar to this one). Members will have until the 15th of the month to nominate any book of his/her choice. Members are asked to nominate only one book per month. Authors may not nominate their own books.
♦ On the 15th of the month, the nominations thread will be closed and a poll will be created, containing all of the nominated books. Members will have until the 20th of the month to vote for their favorite book.
♦ On the 21st of the month, the book with the greatest number of votes will be announced as the Monthly Read for the upcoming month. Anyone who is interested in reading the Monthly Read will have time to purchase or borrow the book(s) before the Monthly Read begins on the 1st.
♦ On the 1st of the next month, the Monthly Reads will begin and a new nomination thread will be posted.
When nominating a book, please follow these guidelines:
Members may nominate a maximum of THREE books for each Monthly Read. Also, please refrain from re-nominating a book that has already been posted by another user.
Please try not to nominate books that have been selected as Monthly Reads in the past. You can view all of our past Monthly Reads here.
Please do not nominate the second, third, fourth, etc. books in a series unless we have read all preceding books as Monthly Reads. Chances are, most members have not read the first book in the series. Therefore, it would exclude the majority of our members from participating in that particular Monthly Read.
For authors, please do not nominate your own book(s). While you are more than welcome to nominate a book, we ask that you refrain from nominating any books that you have written or are representing for an employer. Such nominations will not be included in the poll. If you would like to promote your work, you can do so here.
