Welcome aboard, Ewan!

So glad your back, Joy!
So glad your back, Joy!
Hadn't spotted this until nowI'm completing or trying to complete The Book Addicts Reading Challenge 2016 - 12 books and 4 reserves to read in 2016
I have 3 books that fit the Read Scotland Challenge
A Small Weeping
The Lewis Man
Whisky From Small Glasses
so just two more to add to meet 'Just a keek'
Hi Peggy,I did really badly last year - I read very few books at all and I don't think there were any Scottish ones. I deserve a slap! I have many excuses but I'm not going to bore you with them - You'll know some already. I'm going to try again this year. Thanks for supporting Scottish Authors.
Alan
You did read Scottish books, Alan. The Head Scarf Revolutionaries for one! Glad your back, we like having you around.
I'm going to join this level, as I have only one or two Scottish books to read this year, including Coffin Road by Peter May.

Welcome! Peter May is an excellent choice! LOVE his books and looking forward to Coffin Road myself.

I'll try for 5 books this year, starting with Alan's book Blue Wicked which I've just bought. Glad to see that his books are now available in paperback as I spend enough time looking at a screen every day so am still resisting getting a Kindle etc.
I'm taking Stephen up on his invite - I originally joined in 2014 and still haven't got to Ben Nevis yet! I think I've read 8 in the past 2 years - 5 to go!

Gave up before (but should be okay this time with more realistic target) and have only just noticed and rejoined this 2016 version. We'll need to get some "Tartan Noir" discussion topics up and running again !

Hope you enjoy Bluewicked, Stephen. Seems odd saying that about a book full of terrible mutilation but you know how it is with this genre! I did like the book, well written with a great ending. Looking forward to seeing what you think. Alan's third book will be out soon!
I hope we'll have more discussion this year in this group!

Alan, I hope your looking! I told you there were still people that would want print!

Very novel idea, Col, taking 3 years to reach Ben Nevis! Whatever works! Glad your back.

Col, that's a great idea. I was very poor last year but I can catch up this year. It's a bit like repeating a year at school!
Peggy, I've got to hold my hands up and say you told me to get print versions done, and you're right. I should have done it sooner. And Stephen, thanks for buying one. I hope it's to your liking.
As for tartan noir, have you tried any of Douglas Skelton's? He's a writer of true Scottish Crime who has turned his hand to Glasgow crime fiction.

My favourite tartan noir author just now is Malcolm Mackay (went to see him at the Edinburgh Book Festival last summer) - got his latest which he signed that day to read next. My library has the Douglas Skelton books so I'll check those out too - thanks for that.
Alan wrote: "As for tartan noir, have you tried any of Douglas Skelton's? He's a writer of true Scottish Crime who has turned his hand to Glasgow crime fiction."Just started "Blood City" by Douglas Skelton as my next "just a keek" book. Thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks, Stephen. Hope you enjoy it.
I can't remember if I signed up here or not! Anyway I've just finished my first book for this challenge - Too Soon a Death by Janet O'Kane. My review is on my blog - http://www.booksplease.org/2016/02/07...I'm not setting a target level this year. I'm not sure how this challenge works on GR - If I read more than 4 (very likely!) do I then post reviews on the next level up?
Margaret, Once you've read over 5 books just go on the discussion thread for the next level and post a new topic like, Margarets moving up or something and post your books under that topic then.
My third book is Miss Pym Disposes by Josephine Tey - I loved it!http://www.booksplease.org/2016/03/11...

I did too Margaret! Probably my favorite of hers that I've read so far.

My fourth book is The Madness of July by James Naughtie - another great read, complicated though.http://www.booksplease.org/2016/03/17...
Just finished Blood Tears by Michael J Malone. Really enjoyed it, Very gritty Scottish police procedural with just about the most screwed up detective you could imagine. You shouldn't blink - it moves at a very fast pace as DI Ray McBain's past catches up with him and gamekeeper becomes poacher. Very well worth a read for those who like their crime on the raw side.
My fifth book is The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle by Kirsty Wark. I really enjoyed it.The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle
I am aiming for five books this year as most of my reading is for research for my own writing. I am currently reading Night Hunter but definitely will read Coffin Road and anything new in the shetland series by Anne Cleeves.
I joined this group early on but never signed up for a level. Now it's November and I've only read three - Entry Island and Coffin Road by Peter May, and Outlander. Now reading Dragonfly in Amber so I'm confident I will have five (last one TBD) before the end of the year.
