So far, so good. I'm a bit behind overall as I need to be at about a book every 8.2 days to stay on target. That said, this one is LOOOOOOOONG so I'll go over those 8 days. The aim is that I'll catch up with other, shorter books. I've already decided the next book (McCullough's John Adams) will be in audiobook form which - 30 hours!!!! - should help me plow through in 3-4 days and catch back up.
So far, enjoying Chernow's book. Thorough and Chernow shows an obvious admiration of Washington. The issue of the Washingtons' slaves at Mt Vernon was an uncomfortable but necessary chapter and, as I understand it, the issue comes up later when the Washingtons head to Philadelphia for the Continental Congress (we know it was a thorny issue at the debate surrounding the Declaration of Independence).
The only section where it turned into a slog was Chernow's recounting of Washington's land acquisitions during his pre-Revolution years. That says more about me than Chernow, though.
