The man turned. His face was bloodless, pale, and aghast. Clara felt the world shift beneath her.Clara ends up reuniting Barriath and Jorey and turning Jorey to her side. She then decides to go to Northcoast to try and meet up with Citrhin.
“Mother?” Barriath said, sweeping the wide hat from his head. “What are you doing here?”
Cithrin has to face the music with the Medean bank, and while they recognize the opportunity that this has given them, they're also not thrilled that the most junior member of the bank is committing them to this sort of thing. But the die is cast, so Komme gets behind Cithrin. He notes at the end of the book that Cithrin has economically conquered half the world with this plan and Geder has the other half through force of arms and magic.
Basrahip lets Geder know that he needs many more priests. This isn't followed up on in this book, but you can see how this could be bad ...
In Northcoast a splinter group of the spider cult appears and tries to enlist King Tracian. Fortunately Marcus and Inys are on the ball.

Cithrin has the other half - except she hasn't really. It's just her clever idea and there are some pretty stark limitations on that sort of power. You can't print money endlessly without collapsing the economy of whatever country you're doing it in.
