Hi Everyone,

I have a little free time today so I was thinking about the upcoming year which is right around the corner.

I was just wondering if there is anything that people would wish we did as part of this group. For instance, we have tried group reads with limited participation. However, if people would really like that I would be willing to try again.

We also recently talked about pages versus books. Would some people be interested in a page challenge? I think that would look something like the average book is 300 pages and I want to read 100 books so my page goal would be 30,000 pages next year.

Let me know if you have any idea's and I can discuss them with Kay and Elyse and we can see what might work.

Thanks!

Andrea

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments It's not a new idea, but I love the weekend read-a-thons (even though most haven't worked out for me this year). So I'm hoping those continue.

Rachel I also enjoy read-a-thons and would participate in those. Weekends and holiday vacations would both be good times.

I would rather do books than pages for 2016.

I would also love to do more book buddies, does 75 Books have a place for that?

JanB | 980 comments Andrea, I don't have new ideas, just wanted to chime in that I'd rather do books, not pages. Page numbers can be different depending on if you read a HB, PB, or trade PB, and then we have audiobook listeners. Although I've read chunksters, and wish I could have counted them as 2 books! Ha

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments I like the overall goal being books because it seems... less chore-like? I'm not sure that makes sense, but I read for content not quantity and focusing on the number of pages might make me feel like I was back in school with an assignment to read X amount of pages before the next class. But that's just me... and I could see page challenges, like alphabet challenges, being fun for some readers.

Thank you everyone who has given valuable feedback so far! This really helps us shape and improve our group for our very dear members :)

No pages for next year. However if someone wants to do something like that I would be happy to set up a thread for those people to do their own little side thing.

We will try to do more readathons! I love them too ;) I work now on the weekends so it's hard for me to moderate them but I will do my best to do more in 2016.

Rachel, can you tell us more about book buddies, I don't know anything about this. Is it something you have done in other groups?

If you have any other suggestions let me know.

message 7: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Yes. Often it's set up as a discussion where people can put in a message saying something like, "Hi, I'm reading such and such book and am looking for someone to join me. Anyone interested?" Or some people will put in a message with several books they'd like to read, kind of fishing for any interested takers. Then, when one or more people say yes, they set up a new thread in the Book Buddies (or whatever it is called) discussion for them to talk about it.

Same for me! I once tried to do pages and that just didn't work out for me.

Do people want to do the ABC challenge again next year? We could also do a different challenge there are lot that we could adapt to reading. There is a state one where you have to read a book that takes places in each of the 50 states, we could do the same things for countries, we could have a non-fiction challenge, we could have a biography challenge, etc.

Let me know if any of these appeal to any of you. So far we have done a children/YA challenge and the ABC title challenge that I can recall.

Rusty | 50 comments I've just joined this group and deleted two others. This one looks much more interesting. One of the groups I belong to does pages but I no longer participate in compiling pages. I just like to read, whenever and however is interesting to me. Where do I find the children/YA challenge? I'd like to see what was read.

Welcome to the group, Rusty! Feel free to post a little something about yourself here! :)

As for the children/YA challenge, I think it was something we did a few years ago and I don't think it's made its way back. It was before I was a member! So I'm not sure of any of the logistics on it either.
