Are the characters able to possess magic?

Are films not made by Disney, but by prior Disney employees, such as the Swan Princess or Anastasia, included?

Yes to magic but no to prior films.

How extensive is one's magic? Obviously they can't be all powerful, but what magic can they have? Is the magic unique to each individual or does it run in the gene pool so brothers and sisters would have to have similar powers?

Hmm, I'd say the three ways one of the characters could get magic is: 1. DNA-related, so passed down via blood relatives 2. Learned from spellbooks/classes/another magical being/human 3. Cursed

So, if a character has magical powers from the first option, then I'd say their magical abilities depend on what their parents or relatives had in the Disney movies, and for the other two options, you make it however you want, just not overly powerful, as you said.

So, to sum all that up - it depends.
