History & Personality

History:
Harper grew up in a rather broken home. Her mother and father lived in Ireland until her mother became pregnant, when they moved to the United States. They were not very wealthy, even in Ireland, and in the States, they were even less so. Harper was born on a cold, December night. The birth was quick, thankfully so. Harper wasn't born "special," she didn't have any "gifts," from birth. She was just an average, crying baby. She grew up racing through back alleys, climbing buildings, practicing acrobatics. Her mother had been a dancer, and she tried to get the energetic redhead to learn the discipline, but could not quite manage it. Instead, after watching her daughter free run all around the alley behind their apartment, she enrolled her in a local gymnastics club. Harper took to it quickly, but her instructors thought her too much of a handful. She would talk back, do things without a spotter, and generally be a showoff. She was kicked out of the club after four years of pravtice, which made the redhead incredibly angry. To make matters worse, at this time Harper's mother discovered her husband was having an affair. The split was bad, the marriage went down in flames, destroying all family bonds along with it. Because of this, Harper does not trust people easily.

Her mother turned to drugs. It was difficult for the 10 year old to watch, and even more difficult when the young girl came home to find her mother dead from and overdose. She ran, both literally and figuratively, never turning back. She did not know where she was going or what would become of her. The ally ways could go on forever as far as she was concerned. This was when she got mixed in the wrong crowd. A gang took her in, and she naively followed along. She had nowhere else to go, afterall. She felt a sort of family bond with this group. They didn't care who you were, where you came from, just that you did what the ringleader wanted. And oh, did she ever. Harper was one of the best thieves they had seen in all of their time. Her innocence kept strangers and the law thinking she could do any wrong. Her agility and gymnast abilities were honed and she spent her free time learning to fight. Boxing, knives, you name it. While she loved the adrenaline rush this new life brought to her, thieving just didn't seem...the right fit.

She was 18 years of age when things really changed. It was a bad month to begin with. She had accidentally killed a fellow gang member in a street fight. Tensions were high and she felt...off. Break into the Cryogenics lab, they told her, steal us some cool tech. They've gotta have some weapons, they said. And, annoyingly, even though she didn't really want to, she went along with it. She needed to, to keep her place with her 'family.' In her complete black attire, she did her thing, hacking into the alarm systems, and then slipping in through the ventilation systems.

It was simple enough, really. Their system was far less complicated than what she had been looking into recently--Stark Enterprises. Compared to that, this was nothing. She was in and moving throughout the lab when things went sour. She had the tech her "friends" had wanted and she was climbing back through the vents when the vent broke. Perhaps it was the age, the stress of the bolts, but Harper fell, crashing into test tubes and vials. Obviously, this terrified her. What was in her skin now? What had she fallen in? Everything seemed ok, she felt no pain. With what dignity she had left, she got up and climbed back into the vents, getting the hell out of there.

It was a month later when she noticed the changes. They were subtle at first. Faster reaction times. Whenever she fell, she would land on her feet. And then her night vision came. She could see in the dark. Her senses, they all increased. Her nails grew to sharpened points. Curious, she hacked back into the Cryogenics lab computer, looking into what she had fallen into. The program had been compromised, obviously that was her fault. But what they had been researching..that was far more intriguing. The lab had been researching the DNA of several feral cats, seeing how they could improve combat skills by injecting a serum into soldiers. And this serum..it was in her.

Code Name: BlackCat:

It took Harper a few weeks to come to terms with what happened. And then she realized her full potential--not doing petty crimes with some tiny, silly, New York gang. She could do far better than that. She began selling her skills. Initially, she was just a hand for hire. She would do what needed to be done, she would break into buildings, steal whatever needed. She was 20 when she was hired to kill her first victim. It was...surprisingly easier than she imagined, in the moment of things. But, still to this day, she sees her victims in her dreams. They haunt her every day.

The Name is Wrath:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"The Name is Wrath, you'll do well not to forget it."
She was approached by a group after a year of infamy. The called themselves The Seven Deadly Sins, and they wanted her to join as Wrath, to complete their circle. If not, they would have her killed. Not having much else a choice, she agreed. Her real trainings began here, and her artforms perfected. She was taught ancient Chinese methods of defense, offense, and slaughter. Their lessons were dark and full or torture, something she wishes never to speak of. And while they referred to her as Wrath, she would always be BlackCat to everyone else. The training destroyed whatever innocent girl still remained inside her.
She spent three years with them as Wrath, and she had buried her true self so deeply inside. As Wrath, she was malicious, she killed without caring, without thinking. Sometimes, her kills were sloppy, bloody, simply to create the fear of her and what she could do. Harper was jolted back into realization after killing a man who reminded her much of her biological father.
She missed who she used to be. Using her powers for...well..not necessarily good. But definitely not for chaotic evil. She needed a plan of escape. And when Iron Man made the news, she found it.

Escape:
After working with The Seven for several years, creating quite the reputation in the news, she decided she would complete her dream--breaking into Stark Tower. She spent extensive time researching, studying, practicing breaking into his systems. When she thought she had it, she donned her black suit, pinned back her read hair, and everything went crazy.
She made it past the first firewall, but wasn't anticipating the second. She wasn't prepared for J.A.R.V.I.S., at least not as prepared as she thought she might be. She was in his tech lab when the alarms went off. She was able to disarm several of the defenses before she was captured.
She was so angry with herself. How could she be so careless to get caught? It should have been an easy in-n-out mission for her. She figured this was the end. She would be killed, or tossed in prison, or something else terrible.
But, to her surprise, neither of these happened. Much to her surprise, Stark himself sat down with her. He recognized her from the news, he had been waiting for her to try her hand at his tower. He thought she could be an...asset. Tony offered her a position working in his tech lab, and a way out of The Seven. He seemed to recognize her potential. He was in the process of making the deal with her when the building was attacked. Alongside the other Avengers, Harper helped them fight off the agents. It was an odd acceptance into the team, but it was obvious this was where she belonged. Her skills worked well with theirs, she finally fit.

She tried to explain to the Avengers, she wasn't a hero. She wasn't super strong, incredibly brilliant, a freaking God from another world. She was just a person with a knack for fighting and breaking and entering, who happened to fall into some nasty shit. Her 'powers,' if you could call them that, didn't help her much in the longrun. But they wouldn't hear it. She was an Avenger, even if perhaps she would need some further training.

The chemistry between Harper and Clint was undeniable from the first day they met. He recruited her as a member of SHIELD and together they went on missions when they weren't needed by the Avengers. They were a dynamic duo really, but she will not admit her feelings for him. It could compromise the team, and the team is her first priority. But, she hopes, maybe some day things can be different for them.

Personality: Harper is a bit feisty. She does not enjoy it when people question her knowledge or her ability to accomplish things. She is very into pleasing others. She likes to make others happy & comfortable, and does her best to make this happen. Humour runs in Harper's veins. She often makes jokes, especially dirty ones, which often surprises the guys around her. no harm in a little fun, in her opinion. The redhead is very protective of those she cares about, currently being only the members of the Avengers. She would do anything, even sacrifice herself, to save one of them. She doesn't speak of her past. Harper feels as if she is still not deserving of her place on the team, even though she has been with them for several years now and often feels as if they question her too.
