This sounds like a great book Linda Christmas at The Mysterious Bookshop, I've never heard of it before, but what a great gesture by that bookstore owner! :)

I loved The Snow Child is a re-telling of a Russian fairy tale - is a wonderful blend of reality and fantasy, with just a smidgen of horror thrown in.
