I had this in my review, but since I see that there's now a Q & A group, I think it belongs here instead. (Contains possible spoilers: don't go further with this question if you haven't read this excellent book.)
I had this in my review, but since I see that there's now a Q & A group, I think it belongs here instead. (Contains possible spoilers: don't go further with this question if you haven't read this excellent book.)Did Astrid and John learn enough from listening to Jennifer under hypnosis to know that any danger in trying to restore her would affect only her and no one else? Astrid occasionally warned Jennifer about not doing things that would alter the reality that she was trying to return to, but didn't she (Astrid) ever wonder: how is this thing that is happening to Jennifer affecting me and my reality?
I wondered about that too, PJ. But the fact that they weren't worried made me decide that it was more of a psych-phenom than a sci-fi one.

      Hi there!
There was a small part in there where I touched on that and Jennifer was worried about everyone else. I tried to imply that they also learned of that through John's findings in Mexico. If Jennifer didn't "make it" that reality would simply go on and Jen would wither away mentally like Jesus. If she did cross over, no one would be harmed or affected, because her life would be as it was, as would theirs in 2013. I did consider that too. It's supposed to touch on how everything is connected, one change, one step in another direction, everything could be entirely different. But yes, John and Astrid are quite noble, but also very enlightened and aware of the possible consequences of messing with fate, sort of like "if you're not supposed to be here, odds are we aren't either," sort of thing:). They really don't get the full grasp of how out of place she is until that session when John comes back and Astrid sees it all clearly....finally. But those are excellent questions and adding a sentence or two about that in the book might help, so thank you!

That's true that John did learn that, but I guess the skeptic in me was thinking that it was pretty skimpy information to base one's fate and that of all one's loved ones. If John came back and proposed a cure for cancer, schizophrenia, or the Ebola virus on that one case, would they be as confident? Even if they went forward because it was the only lead they had, I would have a doubt or two if I were in their shoes.

The story is from Jennifer's point of view after all.

Yes, but they were psychics. So maybe they knew things on a level that the average person wouldn't.
But a sequel would be good anyway!
