Brittie (brittiereads) | 127 comments What is your yearly challenge?

My Neurologist told me to read to exercise my brain cells that I have left.

In 2012, My challenge was 20 books but I wanted to feel challenged. So in 2013, I upped my books to 50 but then I felt anxious and pressured. This year, I lowered it to 40.

What is your goodreads' yearly challenge?

Mine is fifty books. I read fast when I am bored. My biggest problem is finding books I actually want to read.

That is definitely my biggest problem. Defeating the reading rut between books.

Jess Crafts (jessicacrafts) My challenge this year is 40. Im quite far ahead of it but then i get quite long ruts so we'll see where i end up. Last year it was 30 and i think i got to about 35.

Brittie (brittiereads) | 127 comments I'm also ahead of my challenge but with reading ruts, I'm sure it'll even out.

Being ahead gives less anxiety when it comes to the end.

Alex (mabith) My goal this year is 208. I've read 156 the last few years and I have a thing about the final number being divisible by 52. Last year I stopped reading new books because I'd reached 156 and didn't want to go over So this year I'm reading some children's/YA novels to fill this out.

I love children's books, but sometimes reading them just reminds me of when I was still able to work (managed a bookstore with my sister and ran the children's/YA section). So I hadn't been reading more than one a month. My nephew is also getting old enough to be read longer chapter books, so that's a reason to read more of these.

I'm a little ahead of myself too, which actually makes me anxious since I can't go past 208 due to the divisible by 52 thing.

I would like to read at least 1 book for leisure a month. I'm in graduate school working on a doctorate so I think 12 leisure books will help me not become overwhelmed or feel that I've let myself down.

Devin (campredwood) | 21 comments Last year I think only read about 20 or so total, the year before that 15, the year before that less than 10- brain fog really got the better of me. I surpassed all of that this year alone easily with leisure books, so i don't have a goal in mind in particular in mine, except to keep going. I want this to be something fun, not an extra stress.

Since I'm in school and homework/required reading take priority in my effort and anything else on top of that is cake.

I completely agree. I want this to be fun and not be stress but meeting the deadline. That is why I lowered it.

Megan | 6 comments Last year I only got through half a book (just finished it yesterday).

I haven't really worked out what my challenge is for this year but I'm aiming to have one 'leisure'/'entertainment' book and one 'informitive'/'educational' book going at a time.

So, although I don't have a number of books I'm aiming for my challenge is to just keep on reading.

That's how my challenge was last year! I had a major surgery and half the time I was too out of it to read. Between that and other life things, it was hard to read anything. As long as I kept reading, I felt accomplished.

Julie Croner | 15 comments Honestly, I've never been huge on reading. I love to read at the beach, but at home I never make it a priority. I want to change that and I'm grateful to this group because I'm sure it's going to challenge me to exercise my brain more!
