I'm not a fan of science fiction and dystopia books....but it is on the 1001 Books You must read before you die list and I'm trying to work my way through as many of those as I can.

I'm working on the 1001 books to read before you die list as well. It will take years to complete but I'm trying to fit a few in each year. I'm also working on the BBC top 200 and the Rory Gilmore challenge.
I'm working on the 1001 as well, although I think the one I'm using keeps getting updated and has more books added. I have a bunch of other lists I'm working through too though (lots of Top 100 - BBC, Guardian, Time, Amazon, Modern Library, plus the Rory Gilmore challenge) so the 1001 list is slowly getting ticked off. :)

I love Chandler but would recommend The Long Goodbye or The Big Sleep over Farewell My Lovely, which I found disappointing.I picked a Mishima for my challenge too. The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea is so amazing.

Thanks for the recommendations.
You're off to a great start! I haven't read many of these books, but it's looking like you're going to have a fun year.
I enjoyed I, robot, it's like a series of logical puzzles. Would love to hear your thoughts on it after you are done.
Stacey wrote: "Ed, what did you think of The Year 1000...? The premise sounds so interesting."I really liked it.... it makes you realize that things weren't quite as backwards as you might have thought...and England was quite wealthy in comparison to other lands.... that's why the Vikings kept invading.
Wow. Good to know. I added it to my TBR pile, which is starting to rage out of control. Hopefully I'll read it this decade!
Completed Week 4. #10 of 52.I discovered Christa Wolf in 2015.... didn't like that one and didn't like this one either. The first was on Boxall's 1001 Books You Must Read list and this one is on the Western Canon!
Just came back from a month long cruise and read about 15 books...so, I'll be posting some of them this week or so. Just posted my Reader's Choice....Week #13. That's 25 of 52.
