Hey, you're almost halfway there! :)

message 3: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments This is tough! Although I know the most I will read is 99 because there is one book I refuse to try given just how awful the writing was on another book by the same author. Also realized I didn't put any of these in my challenge sooooo not sure if I will make a dent in it this year :(

I managed to read one this year, so I'm doing better than I did last year. :)

I wish they would update the list, or make a new one. There are so many books that have come out since this list was made that should be on it.

message 5: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments I know which book you're not going to read! ;)

message 6: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Ohhh which one Suzanne!!!

message 7: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Oh wait...there's two books! I just realized which one you would choose :) :)

message 8: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments One of them has to be Do You Remember the First Time?

message 9: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Yes indeed! The other is The Book of Jane. I read another one by them. It was supposed to be Christian chick-lit but the main character was SO contradictory. You cannot tell me one minute she is Christ-like and then turn around and have her be rude "in the name of Christ." Never again.

Eva | 259 comments i loved Do You Remember The First Time. read it twice in one year...

Eva wrote: "i loved Do You Remember The First Time. read it twice in one year..."

LOL Eva, a bunch of us read a different book of hers a few years ago and thought it was horrible. Pretty much turned all of us off of the rest of her books. :)

Chaw chaw chaw, LOL

message 12: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments I think they are making it into a movie!!! My first thought was "will they chaw all over the place?!"

message 13: by Eva (new)

Eva | 259 comments i think that was just that one book (amanda's wedding, right?) that was pretty bad. she has a few others which are really nice. i thought diamond's are a girl's best friend was also good.

message 14: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments That's the one!

Hilarious that you were able to guess which one, Eva!!

Kourtney - are you serious?????

message 16: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments PHEW! I just googled and it is Jenny's Wedding not Amanda's Wedding. We're safe! Although now we will never have the question of the chaw's answered.

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
LOL, that was my thought, that we'd finally get to find out what exactly a chaw is. :)

message 18: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Looks like she's Scottish so I'm finding out from the bf!! I almost want to re-read it again to see if my outlook changed knowing more about their Scottish ways...

Nahhhh.... :)

message 19: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments THE QUESTION OF THE CHAW HAS BEEN ANSWERED!

Straight from the Scotsman mouth:

As we all knew ! and ? are meant to reflect the characters facial expression. I shouted to him "IT'S NOT A SENTENCE!" He said it is common in Scotland though to write that way (I'm trying to read another book by a Scottish author and they shorten so much stuff I have my bf read it to me as it is distracting as all get out! Plus let's be fair - it's fun to listen to his accent.)

As for the chaw chaw chaw...he said that this sounds like something that is distinct to the author's corner of Scotland as he has never heard it before. At first he thought it was reflecting that the characters were chewing, but I mentioned I would have figured that out as Texans call that chaw as well (or at least the one Texan I knew of back in grade school). After further discussion he proclaimed:

Chaw would be the sound that the characters make to "highlight a stereotypical laugh from posh people" - which makes sense because I saw reviews from Scots that said they didn't like the stereotypes in the book. So it seems this was her way to put down posh people!

What scares me even more? My boyfriend does not even bat an eye when I ask him these out of the world crazy questions. He does laugh at me though :)

message 20: by Eva (new)

Eva | 259 comments i didnt realize the author was scottish. anyway, chaw chaw chaw is only in that one book (although i havent read them all), so that's how i guessed it. i've never heard or read it anywhere else.

as far as a i remember, the beginning of the book was very disjointed, maybe because the one telling it was hungover? afterwards it got to be more normal.

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
Finally! We have meaning!!! Doesn't mean that I don't still don't like it though! :) Way to go Kourt for knowing someone that could finally explain the Chaw!

Can't say that I remember reading any other books by Scottish authors...wait, Cecelia Ahern?? Is she?

Eva - I hated that book so much that I blocked everything but the Chaw from my memory. :)

message 22: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments I knew my dating habits would pay off one day! Off the top of my head I want to say Cecelia is Irish?

BTW if this was Facebook I would like that comment of yours Stacy!! The CHAW is forever engraved in our lives!

message 23: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
Oh, Irish. Yes, I think you're right. Didn't she have a short story in Irish Girls about Town?

LOL, I know, sometimes I really wish there was a "like" feature on here.

That's what usually happens with my large lists - 100 chick lit authors, 100 chick lit books, and RDI books.
