I managed to read one this year, so I'm doing better than I did last year. :)
I wish they would update the list, or make a new one. There are so many books that have come out since this list was made that should be on it.

LOL Eva, a bunch of us read a different book of hers a few years ago and thought it was horrible. Pretty much turned all of us off of the rest of her books. :)
Chaw chaw chaw, LOL

Nahhhh.... :)

Straight from the Scotsman mouth:
As we all knew ! and ? are meant to reflect the characters facial expression. I shouted to him "IT'S NOT A SENTENCE!" He said it is common in Scotland though to write that way (I'm trying to read another book by a Scottish author and they shorten so much stuff I have my bf read it to me as it is distracting as all get out! Plus let's be fair - it's fun to listen to his accent.)
As for the chaw chaw chaw...he said that this sounds like something that is distinct to the author's corner of Scotland as he has never heard it before. At first he thought it was reflecting that the characters were chewing, but I mentioned I would have figured that out as Texans call that chaw as well (or at least the one Texan I knew of back in grade school). After further discussion he proclaimed:
Chaw would be the sound that the characters make to "highlight a stereotypical laugh from posh people" - which makes sense because I saw reviews from Scots that said they didn't like the stereotypes in the book. So it seems this was her way to put down posh people!
What scares me even more? My boyfriend does not even bat an eye when I ask him these out of the world crazy questions. He does laugh at me though :)

as far as a i remember, the beginning of the book was very disjointed, maybe because the one telling it was hungover? afterwards it got to be more normal.
Finally! We have meaning!!! Doesn't mean that I don't still don't like it though! :) Way to go Kourt for knowing someone that could finally explain the Chaw!
Can't say that I remember reading any other books by Scottish authors...wait, Cecelia Ahern?? Is she?
Eva - I hated that book so much that I blocked everything but the Chaw from my memory. :)

BTW if this was Facebook I would like that comment of yours Stacy!! The CHAW is forever engraved in our lives!
Oh, Irish. Yes, I think you're right. Didn't she have a short story in Irish Girls about Town?
LOL, I know, sometimes I really wish there was a "like" feature on here.
