Unlike almost any other book series, this series is about the daily lives of regular people. The author manages to capture the heart and soul of the universe he has created in the development of his characters. They grow and strive, not with alien invaders, but with the more subtle human tendencies to coast and to settle for less. The main characters "achieve" by believing in themselves and their compatriots.
