This book has surprised me. I was not expecting it to be told from the perspective of Adam after the first book If I Stay. I must say Gayle Forman uses juxtaposition in many different ways to create critical moments for the characters. The first example is in the Point of View from the first book to this one--from Mia to Adam. Forman also juxtaposes Mia's accident to Adam being dumped; as well as how the break up has affected both of them. Then there is the music; Mia being a classic Cellist and Adam being a guitar playing rock star. Oddly, these opposites are what connects the characters and their experiences and values. Gayle Forman has created critical moments for both Mia and Adam that's for sure--one example would be at the beginning of the novel when Mia and Adam see each other for first time since the break up at Mia's concert at Carnegie Hall.

Tasia Siegel | 32 comments Gayle Forman has really surprised me. I kept waiting for Adam to confront Mia about the breakup, but I was not expecting what happened when he did. Forman included a few twists that I did not see coming, but that is what I think makes the story good. In the end I was relieved with the resolution, and now I am ready for her next book. It is hard to talk about the book without giving too much away, but the night Adam decides to watch Mia play at Carnegie Hall was more than coincidence. Gayle Forman makes things interesting through the use of music, and a journey through New York.
