I read this book back before Christmas and was struck by the agony of the first world war in a way that I'd never experienced before. Louisa's realistic and dry approach struck me in a way that a non-fiction war book never could.
Even though I enjoyed the plot immensely and come to feel very strongly about some characters - I really disliked the ending!
What are others people's thoughts on this?

Alison | 1 comments I didn't feel any emotional engagement with the characters, I quite disliked most of them. However, the hospital scenes felt well-researched and authentic, bringing home the suffering and bravery of the patients and the skill and dedication of the medical staff.
