I really enjoyed the first book and got through it in no time. It kept my attention very well. There is definitely some similarities to Black Dagger Brotherhood but there was no cliffhanger, secondary plots, at least not yet. :-)
Happy reading!

Love this series, i read 1 and 2, but my local library does not have 3 or 4 so i bought them off ebay, waiting for them to come in as i type this lol. Can't wait, I enjoyed the second part just as much as the first.
I did like it too. I like BDB better, but I am only 2 books into that series. This series I liked all the characters and I want to see what happens between Lucan and Gabrielle. They seem adorable.
My question is: will we count the novellas only on Kindle? (Touch of MIdnight is Book 0.5).. It was free and I think there are a few others...

hmmm i don't have access to the novellas, i do not own a e reader (kindle or such) and the library does not have em, so i am not reading the .5 books. Don't know if you all want to count them in or not, but i won't be able to acess them. Plus i tried someones nook and i don't like reading on those things lol i am old fashion and like a book instead. Have a wonderful week ahead Norma. :)

Do you have a cell phone? Before my husband bought my kindle I used my cell. I know a lot of people who HATE doing that... But I didn't mind. Not sure if you were a YAY or NAY on the whole phone thing. I know people have a lot of issues with the whole small screen thing. Just curious.

I do not own a smart phone, just regular flip phone.. I have the kindle app on my computer and probably could read em there, but just don't like to read on computer, rather a book lol
It think we will count the books in the series, though feel free to read the novellas. I'm not sure if I have them. If 0.5 is free then I have it but will wait until I read further into the books to decide whether to read them or not.
@Linda - Which Nook did you read on? I find being able to adjust the font is a big advantage for me in reading speed. I still read paperbacks and hardbacks but am definitely preferring the reader when it come to having both. Also, if you listen to audio books, buying the Kindle version and then the buying the whispersync for some reduced price, can really save from the audible only version. And it is the same exact version.
Still some people just don't like the readers and tablets. I wish these books would come out in compilations. I've only read one book completely on my computer and it wasn't comfortable. I may start them on the computer while waiting for installs and downloads, but I switch over.

I only like the Readers because you can get a boatload of free books that are otherwise unavailable.
Yes, A Touch if Midnight, Book 0.5 about how Gideon met his love is still free on Amazon and Nook!

So over 1/2 through Midnight Awakening. These books just get better and better. Tegan is so screwed up, he makes me want to cry. I love Elise.
I am also reading Midnight awakening, i am on page 62 so i just started it, but loving it already. I love this series.
So wow, went on vacation and just got back. I ended up getting all the way to the 6th book, Ashes of Midnight which is the only one I didn't like very much, so far. It just bored me a little with both the storyline and the romance.
I really liked Renata and Nikolai's book, number 5, Veil of Midnight. I went into it thinking I wouldn't like it too much since Nikolai wasn't a favorite and it starts out with Renata being the big bad. I didn't know how that would turn around. But it was one of my favorites in the end.
Rio and Dylan's book, Midnight Rising just started too slowly for me, though it was good it was not one of my favorites from this series.
Midnight Awakening I loved to the end. I think it might be my favorite so far.
I'm so wanting to read Hunter's book but that is 3 books away and now I am going back to Anita and some of my other series I need to clean up. I'll let you know when I start reading Midnight Breeds again.

@Jess -minions, I believe is the word you want. They are the human servants of the vampires that are nearly drank to death and then are enthralled with the vampire, master. Only the older generations can do it.
@Adele -Kade or Brock is Shades of Midnight. That is the book I'm up to but haven't started it yet. Have a few in front. What did you think about the last ones?

I like that. human marionettes. sounds so fancy :)
Amy I have been inhaling the books...that's why I'm so ahead(that and I'm on holiday averaging a book a day).
I get like this. my anxiety gets so bad I start getting triggered by events in books and movies.
yes I'm on holiday unfortunately anxiety doesn't take a holiday.
anyway I've gone back to reading the BOM. and I should be finished with that by tonight. so I'll be back on the series tomorrow.
I'd do reviews for them bit that's too much like work. no one wants work while relaxing by the pool lol.

I think I've heard the minions called puppets but the official word by the author is minions. Puppets are like marionettes except that they don't have the strings controlling them but the hand underneath. Marionettes is too pretty (and fancy) for them.
Yes, vacation, that did it for me but now I'm back to the other books on my list for a while... though I think I'm going to read the prequel novella on my phone.
The prequel is available in a companion book

I read the novella yesterday night and agree with you on the "too short". It was like she rushed the end conflict, (view spoiler), just to wrap it up. Still it was fun to see how they got together.
I vaguely remember a horror movie with a marionette in it. I have been avoiding horror as I age so it has been awhile. Mostly I think of Pinocchio.

I didn't like how Shades of Midnight started either but it got better. After how I didn't really like Ashes of Midnight, the start of Shades had me worried. I still don't like how she talks about these people who are inconsequential in the beginning. It dragged the story and the main couple ended up dragging a bit also at the beginning. Still it got a lot better and... for me ended up being good.
So after reading Kade's book, I went right to Brock's, which I liked a bit better. Since I was up to Hunter's book, I couldn't resist and read on. I loved Hunter's book, except the cliffhanger type ending. So since it does leave Chase up in the air and he is the next book, I went on to that one also. Chase's book wraps up this part, I really liked how she wrapped it up.
From what I understand the next book and then the one coming in Aug., is the next generation. I think Mira is in one. Anyway, this is a good place to put it down for a while I say this again though there is only one book left and I'll wait closer to the release of the next. I will read the novella at some point since it is still the same generation.

Is anyone up to Crave the Night? It came out a few days ago but will be a couple of weeks before I can get to it... Maybe a little longer.
I've like the series a lot overall. The change from the original breed to the 2nd generation, hasn't quite sold me yet. Since there is really only one book I've read, this book will be important to whether I move on with it.

Finally got to Crave The Night and so glad I did. I didn't like the last book as the main character had left the Order and I felt him an anti-hero for no good reason. This one stayed in the Order and introduces us more to the Atlantian people. I liked both the storyline and the romance. The new twist in the generation gap is starting to grow on me.
October will have a new novella.
October will have a new novella.
I believe I did get that from fictfact actually. I love that site. It is all now in the series line up
https://www.goodreads.com/series/4914...
So the novella came out October 14th but it passed me by. Now that I know it was released already, I'll probably get it. It is under the 1001 Nights series too. I wonder if they will put them out as book anthologies.

Tempted by Midnight (1001 Dark Nights, #10), Lazaro's story. I really liked it, 3 1/2 stars. Finished it a while back but remember liking how it bridged some of the first generation and the second generation that seemed too much of a jump with the first novellas.
Although I didn't like the jump to the second generation in the first book, the second was much better and this novella makes me feel that it is going in a good direction.

i admittedly got out of this series... i should get back into it again.
i was up to shades of midnight i think.
it sounds like a good restart point.

I didn't really like 3 of the books much, other than that they were either good, really good, or great. The first book of the new generation was one I didn't like, Edge of Dawn. I almost thought I would stop there but since then I read the next one and the two novellas and thought them good to very good, so worth going on.

OK, so
almost got me to stop this series though
was just as bad, well OK, just not good but readable. Since Edge was the start of the second generation and I didn't have any real connections, I almost stopped. I ended up getting back to it and the next 2
were actually pretty good and the novellas have been on the good side, so I'm still reading on. I just don't run to them right away anymore. I actually bought the Kindle verson, preordered, and didn't get to it for months. They just don't pull me as they once did and I haven't loved one of the books since book 9, which was the end of the first generation, 20 years in the past.
My review of the latest book Bound to Darknesscan be seen here

Since we are doing a BOM of book 2, which is one of my favorites, I decided to come back to the group read and see if there was any additional comments and update my reading progress.

I'm going to do this a little differently than the last by allowing anyone to go at their own pace. So if you are already on book 4, let us know how the series is going here now. The series is currently at #11.
I'm going to try to stay at a pace of one book a week but I sometimes get distracted. I will definitely try to get to the 11th by August.
So since many might be on different books, please use spoiler tags for any major plot points/changers. If you don't know how to use spoiler tags, to make this easier... just keep all the spoilers at the end and mark it
SPOILER AHEAD ***************************************
*****************************************************
So that those who hate spoilers can avoid them.... thanks. Personally I don't mind spoilers too much but most people do.
If you don't know how to use spoiler tags and want to learn, send me off an email and I'll show you how.
