CPL's Book a Week Challenge discussion

Happy Monday! We are on to week 15. I'm feeling pretty good because I finished four books last week. To be fair, though, two were graphic novels: Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Saga.

I'm at a conference this week so I've had some extra time to myself in the evenings. I read Jaws in one sitting last night, which was a huge success for me since sharks are my worst fear. I also finished Good Omens. I now understand why it's considered a cult classic. I highly recommend it.

Since I'm not at home, I ran out of books to read. Luckily I walked by a cute independent bookstore in D.C. this morning and stopped in to pick up The Interestings, NOS4A2 and The Color of Magic. I'm not sure which one I'll get started with yet.

What is everyone reading this week?

NOS4A2 is on my "to-read" list! I'm looking forward to heating what you have to say about it.

I'm about 60% done with Ready Player One and eating it up!

I'm also still working through Sacred Marriage and A Dance With Dragons.

Otherwise it's time to pick out something else to read and decide on my graphic novel! :D

Today I finished the first book int The Shadow Children series. My son really wanted us to read it. I thought it was thought provoking for his age range (eleven). I sinister ZOO by James Patterson and now am reading CELL by Stephen King. The first one was about animals attacking people & the second one is people attacking people after hearing so thing subliminal on cell phones. Kind of similar which was a coincidence.
I NEED to finish Outlander this week because it is late and also we are getting ready for a vacation. I might be living in my car the next few days since I still have 10 discs to go!

I finished Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore last week (really cute, fun read) and reading Ready Player One this week as well and am really enjoying it. I also picked up The Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Telease which is a great study on the benefits of reading aloud to your kids. I'm already on board with everything Trelease is saying but it's nice to read about studies that back up what I've been doing as a parent since the beginning (ha!)...I've been reading aloud (and continue to do so) to my 7, 9, and 11 year olds since they were infants and they are all bookworms! I love it. I definitely think reading aloud fosters not only a love for books, but a love for learning...

I'm finishing up The Hunt for Red October (hopefully today) and listening to These Broken Stars as well. My problem seems to be that I can't wait to finish one to start another. I keep looking at my stacks and considering starting a new one before I finish the old one - which I've learned is not something I should do because it's hard for me to follow too many things at once.

Anyway, these are on deck, and I'm not sure what I'll pick up next. I want to start them all NOW!

Traci, I totally know what you mean. I have way too many books on my "read soon" list. And I buy new books all the time. The piles are growing! I usually read two or three books at a time.

NOS4A2 is a great place to start! I couldn't put it down when I was reading it. Joe Hill is definitely a chip off the old block!

Still reading "The Interestings" since I continue to get distracted by YA Lit. I have also started "Life after Life" as an audiobook for my commute. So far I do like the story, but as a parent, having to listen to a kid die over and over for different reasons is a little too scary.

I just finished Cell by Stephen King. One more book and I am caught up with where I should be on the reading challenge!

I finished Neverwhere today by Neil Gaiman. It was a strange book but I did like it. Am also reading "The All Girls Filling Station Reunion" by Fannie Flagg. Pickup up my April challenge today- Fables Snow White.

I finished The Hunt for Red October, which was a little slow in the middle with so much technical information but really got moving the last 150 or so pages. Loved it just as much as the movie - which is a lot.

My hold came through for Annihilation today, so I decided to start that, and it's really good so far. It's a short one so I should be done soon, and I'm planning to start 1222 next.

What did you think about Cell? I read it a while back and remember feeling like it was just ok.

It reminded me of a shorter version of the Stand. With the zombie craze right now I think more people would like it. In the end, I did want more answers though. I still liked it, but it's not on my best book ever list.

Hi guys, have been so busy at the schools book fair that I have not had a chance to get on this week!

Thanks for all the great recommendations, I read quite a few of them and have several on the list for next week as well.

I am not able to get onto my ante page and log my recent reads though... Not through the direct link or through the library's site? Anyone else having this problem? I have tried on my phone and on my computer.

I hadn't been on it in a while, but I just tried to go to the site, and I couldn't access it. So, it's not just you.

Sorry for the connectivity issues, guys. Is anyone still having this problem? I just checked it out and it seems to be working. Let me know if you are still unable to access it, though!
