I tried to read this book a while ago, but I hated the writing style and I hated death as the narrator. I just couldn't understand all the rave reviews the book was getting. So many people said they loved it! When I saw the category about a book never finished, I decided to give it another shot. I made it through - over the course of 6 weeks. I liked it, but I didn't love it. The story was good, but the writing style was annoying. I'm still not a fan of death as the narrator, but now it makes more sense.

Ashley, I agree with you on this book. I read it a while ago and thought it was just OK. I do not understand all the love for this story!
I'm not sure about this, but maybe it's a poor translation? The German version is written brilliantly! And everyone I know who read it in German loved it.
It is very possible that something was lost in translation! I really did question what I was missing.
I had the same experience. I was given this to read when it first came out and just couldn't get into it, one of the few books I didn't finish. Then last year I decided to try again, enjoyed it more and finished it but not as brilliant as everyone was telling it was.
