Ashley Todd | 45 comments I tried to read this book a while ago, but I hated the writing style and I hated death as the narrator. I just couldn't understand all the rave reviews the book was getting. So many people said they loved it! When I saw the category about a book never finished, I decided to give it another shot. I made it through - over the course of 6 weeks. I liked it, but I didn't love it. The story was good, but the writing style was annoying. I'm still not a fan of death as the narrator, but now it makes more sense.

Amanda (amandabookworm) I started last year and never finished it. I may give it another try.

Kathy Ashley, I agree with you on this book. I read it a while ago and thought it was just OK. I do not understand all the love for this story!

Zarandra | 21 comments I'm not sure about this, but maybe it's a poor translation? The German version is written brilliantly! And everyone I know who read it in German loved it.

Kathy It is very possible that something was lost in translation! I really did question what I was missing.

message 6: by Jan- (new)

Jan- | 4 comments I had the same experience. I was given this to read when it first came out and just couldn't get into it, one of the few books I didn't finish. Then last year I decided to try again, enjoyed it more and finished it but not as brilliant as everyone was telling it was.

Teresa Kander Totally agree! This was one of those extremely rare occasions where I found the movie to be better than the book.
