Daniel Hazlewood The Shawshank Redemption has been revered as one of, if not THE, greatest movies of all-time. After watching it myself, I have to wholeheartedly agree. Andy Dufresne, the protagonist of this film, is sent to Shawshank prison for a double murder he potentially didn’t commit. While enduring his life-consuming double life-sentence, Andy mostly keeps to himself with the exception of his newest friend, Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding. Andy finds prison life to be as tough as he imagined as he faces many hardships during his time at Shawshank. The nonchalant, professional manner in which Andy carries himself along with his free-world banking career, earns him an esteemed job in the Warden’s office managing the prison’s finances. Andy uses this position to acquire many benefits for himself and his friends. I cannot go into further detail without destroying the integrity of the plot and any potential twist that may arise. The resounding theme of hope and the connection the viewer feels with Andy and Red leaves the viewer feeling triumphant for the characters. Upon watching the film, I am sure you will agree The Shawshank Redemption will always be near the top of the charts.
