Just to be clear were you saying the Beatrice and Virgil one was on our bookshelf or just Yann Martell?
Well, yes Yann Martel is there, but I was specifically looking at/for beatrice and virgil on the group bookshelves.

All done! I read a lot of good books for this challenge, but my favorites were Their Eyes Were Watching God, Life of Pi and Dracula.
Ishita wrote: "Does Agatha Christie fall under classic?"I don't know if she'd fall under a lot of peoples interpretation of classics, but personally she would be a classic of the mystery genre, just due to the impact that she had on popular culture. Granted, I have yet to read one of her books, but just off of reputation and interpretations alone, her classic status is at least considerable.
My understanding is that Agatha Christie is considered a classic of the genre (as Shanea said). For my list, which has a Christie on it for "C" - I used the bookshelves in this group. If it is there I figured I can include it!
Shanea wrote: "Ishita wrote: "Does Agatha Christie fall under classic?"I don't know if she'd fall under a lot of peoples interpretation of classics, but personally she would be a classic of the mystery genre, j..."
Just why I was curious. Thanks :)

*1001 Books to Read Before You Die
Fair play Tanya, that is a cracking list, a really eclectice mix! I've read about half of those over the years. Tell me, is Ayn Rand worth a look? I'm always a bit put off by the denseness of the books and the fact the novels really seem to divide readers. Well done you! Which was your favourite and which did you like least?
First, I've read two Rand titles, Anthem and We the Living. Both were wonderful. Next year I tackle one of the two bigger ones. Her fiction is very well written and We the Living told a fantastic story about the early days of the Soviet Revolution. It was by far my favorite title on this challenge. I also really loved The Sweet Hereafter and Garp had me guffawing out loud. The worst book I read for this challenge was Sexing the Cherry which just fell flat for me.
And I forgot...Revolutionary Road made quite an impact as well. Decently written and well plotted but it was the ending that has stayed with me for the last couple of months.
Tanya wrote: "And I forgot...Revolutionary Road made quite an impact as well. Decently written and well plotted but it was the ending that has stayed with me for the last couple of months."I loved Revolutionary Road too, and I don't usually read many 'domestic dramas' but it was so much more, compellingly uncomfortable! I'd my other fave on your list is the Talented Mr Ripley. I'll have to give Garp try :)
I really enjoyed Ripley as well...enough to make me look into the whole series and procuring it in time for next year. I like to take time with certain series...if I plow through them in one fell swoop, I find I miss the characters and Ripley is quite a compelling character.
Tanya wrote: "I really enjoyed Ripley as well...enough to make me look into the whole series and procuring it in time for next year. I just bought Two Faces of January to take on holiday to Italy with me and have been avoiding any spoilers from that film version that's just come out :)

I hope you all intend to do this again in 2015. I just discovered the Reading With Style group.... and that challenge is even more demanding.... 30 books every three months in different categories if you want to get maximum points. Anyway, I'm going to do my best to get Reading with Style Points while simultaneously completing this challenge. Check it out, the last challenge started December 1 and ends Feb. 28. You can use any books you have already read and finished this December. Happy Holidays!
Thank you Ed! I just joined and am doing the winter challenge and using some of the books I read in December that qualify. And I definitely intend to do this challenge again in 2015. I also joined the group 2015 books.
Well I've had a good start so far on the 2015 challenge:My progress so far

Rules
To reflect the new year and the latest changes to the book group's criteria, some rules have been removed (children's books and plays are now allowed). Remember really, this challenge is yours. It can be what you need. If you don't want to use children's books or plays, you don't have to. If you want to use a certain list (1001 books to read) you can do that too.
1. Using the author's first or last name - read: 26 books
2.Nothing published after 2004. Please feel free to ask if you are unsure if a book falls under the category of "classic." This can be an especially difficult issue for contemporary classics.
3. No non-fiction
4. No poetry
5. You may NOT repeat any author.
6. Any name with an "X" or a "Q" in them will work for those letters. (The name does not have to begin with an X or a Q.)
7. Books must have been read in 2014.
You can sign up anytime, and you can backdate books if you know when you finished it, as long as it was done in the year 2014.
