Okay, so chapter 23 starts off with The Revolutionary Order of the Wicked preparing for battle. The Lion and his deformed monstrous beast are attacking and killing another village and they want to stop him because he's getting to close to their secret mountain headquarters.

(FINALLY SOME ACTION) This is when the action starts to pick back up for me. This Lion is dangerous, and I don't mean that he's dangerous in the Lion-king of the jungle type way either. No he sucks out all of your fear and leaves his victims brittle and old looking. My feelings were all over the place in this fight scene. Gert DIES and that really made me upset because it didn't feel like she needed to sacrifice herself like that.

Again Mombi was nowhere to be found but later shows up after kidnapping some girl from the palace so Amy could steal her image and take her place as a maid. Did the part of Amy eating Astrid hair and changing into her remind anyone else of the polyjuice from Harry Potter? Well it sure did to me, lol (ahhhh the memories).

Ozma is one of the first people Amy encounters once she is transported inside the palace. Even with her craziness and blank mind she seems to notice exactly who she is despite her new appearance, but she doesn't blow her cover. I didn't quite know what to think about her in this moment. Was she more aware of things then she seemed to be? Well anyhow Amy then begins her job working as a maid and eventually runs into Pete (again O_o) who yet again leaves in a blank stare after dropping off Star (her mothers pet rat) and sharing a bit more information with her while explaining how he also knows who she really is behind her disguise.

Then Amy bumps into the Wizard. He ALSO seems to hint at knowing who she really is which had me wondering WTF is with this damn great disguise if EVERYONE seems to see right through it. The Tin Woodman is in love with Dorothy and then Amy/Astrid gets promoted to Dorothy 2nd head maid. Jellia (the head maid) takes her to Dorothy's room and tells her she has to brush her hair and she better not lose count or it would end bad for her.

I thought to myself "damn, they'd better not mess up or that will be their asses" and turns out I was right. Jellia dropped some nail polish on Dorothy's carpet and is forced to kill a mouse by squeezing the life out of it and then she's forced to keep the dead rodent with her in her pocket at all time (smell be damned). AMY WHY OR WHY didn't you kill the b*t*h when you had the chance........was all I was thinking in this chapter. You could of stabbed the f**k out of her or slit her evil ass throat but noooooooooo, you were too damn focus on her shiny red shoes to save Oz!!! -_-

The next day Amy is demoted (yes that fast, lol). She ends up running into Ollie the wingless monkey who is trying to save his sister from the Dr. Frankenstein like Scarecrow who seems to want her brains for his own. I was laughing at this part while picturing a big monkey dressed in maid attire trying to break and enter that room. I was mad that Amy took on this new task and felt that her duty was much higher than helping out Ollie.

Well there are all my thoughts on these chapters. Like I said before the action picked back up here. I regain my confidence in the story and it earned back it's 5 star rating. Very much enjoyed this section of the book.

Michelle (athousandliveslived) | 8 comments 5 STARS EVERYONE. This book has over-exceeded its potential, and that's a very good standing. It's back to being astonishing, and I can't wait to see what will happen in the next 80 pages or so.

I basically cried when Amy had to leave Nox. It just gave me so many feelings and I couldn't stand seeing that romance break, not knowing what will happen next. Hopefully everything will end up okay. And... Ollie's back! Yay!

WHY DIDN'T YOU KILL DOROTHY. SERIOUSLY?! Ugh. She had the perfect chance, but she was sitting there brushing her hair and watching Jellia kill a mouse by squeezing it to death and keeping it in her pocket... ALL BECAUSE SHE SPILLED SOME NAIL POLISH. OMG CAN I JUST KILL HER INSTEAD? OMG, what if that was Star, Amy's pet rat? That would be absolutely horrifying, but thank goodness it wasn't. :)

I'm really afraid for Amy because the Wizard and Ozma both are acting very suspicious and they might know something about Amy's cover... at least we know that Pete does.

PETE! HE'S BACK. I AM SO HAPPY. I JUST LOVE THE GUYS IN THIS BOOK. I don't know who to ship with Amy.

I hope the ending will be fantabulous! I am hooked to this book.

Hannah This is where the plan starts to take off. Does anyone think that Ozma and Amy/Astrid will become allies? I do. and poor Jellia! I can't believe that Dorothy made her kill a mouse by squeezing it and carry it around with her! ew. Pete's back! but, what's up with the flickering thing?! anyways, this is fantastic. I'm loving it.

Georgina Things have defiantly picked back up again and I'm enjoying seeing life inside Dorothy's palace. Things have defiantly become more blurred over who to trust and who is good and who is evil. Especially with the Wizard and Ozma both giving Dorothy hints that they know who she is.

I love that Pete has returned, although of course he is still as mysterious as ever and doesn't seem to want to give any clues and to who he is. Dorothy is so evil, its not just that power has gone to her head but her and her three sidekicks, Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion do some appalling things.

I really liked the character of Jellia and especially felt for her when she dropped the nail polish and Dorothy forced her to kill the mouse.

Starting to enjoy this again now, lets hope it continues

•。✧ ellen ✧。• (eldrasil) I really, really enjoyed these chapters.

I reallt want Dorothy dead, I'm so sorry for Jellia for having to kill that mouse, and PETE? LET ME KNOW WHAT'S UP WITH HIM ALREADY.

I can't put it down, I'll probably be finishing this tonight. Waaah

Gothie BioVenom (gotherellabiovenom) Pete is shifty as hell.
The wizard seems awesome, but also kinda shifty.
I was happy to see Ozma break out of her insanity for a moment, though I don't think she will end up being much use to Amy.

I am glad Amy didn't kill Dorothy when she had the chance. Because now she has seen what Dorothy is really like. On two occasions.
Seeing Ollie strung up and helping down sort of indicated that, but she didn't see Dorothy command it, or see her force punishments like that on someone until now.

I think Dorothy is keeping the staff doped up with stuff in the food. It was pretty suspicious when Jellia noticed she ate something different.

I seriously don't like Pete. I can't help but think he's some part of Dorothy (I read a lot of paranormal stuff, can't help it :p)

But honestly, with all that stolen magic, and the viciousness, it wouldn't surprise if Pete is some sort of embodiment of the good parts of Dorothy. It would kind of explain why he all of a sudden needs to leave, like he's being pulled away by magic.

I understand why Ollie wants to get his sister, but the sister is only going to scream and draw attention when they try to get her out of the Scarecrows lab, unless they cut off her wings, but even then, she isn't going to go quietly. I wish them the best, but I hope Amy gets distracted and doesn't end up helping. I'd rather she observe Dorothy more, or the Tin Woodman or Scarecrow.

I want to see Amy fuming about how shitty Dorothy is, I want her to liken the actions of Dorothy to all the shitty people and shitty things that have happened to her, and I want her to bring it all down around Dorothy's head.

message 8: by Gwendolyn (new)

Gwendolyn I'm not surprised that the story is picking back up now that Amy (aka Astrid) is back in the palace. I just wish the Wicked would have told her who her contact inside the palace was because now every single person/thing Amy encounters she's like maybe this is my contact.....
Pete does sound rather suspicious and sadly I wish his character was more developed. Right when I think I'm getting to know him more he rushes out on Amy (and me).

Chapters 23 to 32

I like this part better than the last one, it is more interesting.

I was very exited when all of the order of the witches tried to kill the Lion, it was entertaining how the author though the Lion would be, all muscle but a weird kind. Other thing that I like was the "power" the Lion had that was eat the fears of other creatures in Oz.

I almost cried when the Lion kill Gert, I loved her character and I was sad that the author kill her very early in the story.

Then when Amy 'aka Astrid' infiltrate in Dorothy's Palace it was very interesting and very infuriating at the same time because you kind of see how life in the palace can be and the gore that surrounded it.

Other of my favorite parts was when after all the efforts Amy (Astrid) finally enters the circle of maids to help Dorothy do her things. It was very sad and stressful when Amy debated with herself to kill Dorothy and she didn't do it. (WHY!!!!!!!!!!!). And Also when Jellia did something wrong Dorothy punished her by doing her to kill a mouse that Dorothy saw in her chambers while Amy was brushing her hair.

Also I loved seeing the return of Ollie even if only was for a while, and when Amy decided to help him trying to find his sister it was very cute and I like a lot this scene in the book, because it is there when you find out how Dorothy affected the life in Oz and his inhabitants where they do not trust easily at all.

I hope that the last chapters of this novel will be entertaining and interesting as this other chapters or even better. So until now the book for me is 5 out of 5 stars I hope it stays the same towards the end of the novel.

message 10: by Justine (new)

Justine | 4 comments Gert dying was not cool. I really liked it when she read Amy's mind and would speak to Amy telepathically. Mombi is giving me a bad vibe.

I keep thinking that Pete and Nox are one person. Probably not but I have wondered about it from the beginning. I like Pete but he's so weird. He does make things interesting. I just don't like that he leaves without saying goodbye. Rude. Plus, I think he's lying about who he is. I bet his name is not even Pete!

I think Ozma and Amy are going to be buddies. I'm pretty sure the Wizard is a good guy. I'm not so sure how this is all going to end but I feel a cliffhanger coming.

Vanessa So that scene where Nox kisses Amy, but only after she has transformed into Astrid and then tells her that it's never going to happen again...WTF?

Pete's back! Thank you Pete, I've missed you! I still don't know where your loyalties lie, but I trust you more than any of the other characters. They are all shifty as hell.

That scene where Amy has to go help to Scarecrow. Holy balls! I was so grossed out!

By the way, did anyone else catch the reference to The Wheelers? From Return to Oz? Because I sure did and those sick freaks wigged me the hell out!

We meet the Wizard. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Yet another mystery to unravel. Do we trust him or not? He seems legit. Legit enough in that Dorothy wants to kill him so that whole the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" saying comes into play.

Ozma is crazy nuts, or so everyone thinks. I'm thinking she just might be playing games, making everyone think she's off her rocker. She seemed pretty damn aware to me.

Ozma, The Wizard, Pete, and Ollie all being able to see through Amy's disguise? I don't know how I feel about that. Too many people around the castle know her secret and that does not bode well. Any why are they the only ones that can tell it's her? I get Ollie, he could smell her, but if it's magical why can't Dorothy see though the disguise?

When Amy gets called into to brush Dorothy's hair and she is transfixed by the Ruby Slippers! I loved how that was described with the arcs of red as Dorothy moved her feet. But then all that got shot to hell when Jellia had to kill the mouse my squeezing it to death! Fudge!!!!!

I'm glad that at the end of this section Amy decided to grow a pair and say to hell with The Order. She's been at the castle for a while with no contact from them, no direction. I'm glad she was like screw it, I'm going to do what I think is right and The Order be damned.

And I almost forgot The Lion! He popped out someone's eye and ate it! Christ!
