For me, copying out all of Paradise Lost was a watershed in this regard. Previously I had avoided dealing with writers that I automatically disliked, but my Milton project pressed me into developing an emotional and intellectual relationship with a writer who has subsequently turned out to be extremely important to me.

My work is never done (caminandoenpradososcuros) | 1 comments I wish I could do the same with Stephanie Meyer and Twilight but I am afraid that is one book series I will never like and I intend to keep it that way lmao

Megan (little_songbird) | 1 comments I find your actions exceedingly admirable Dawn. I can see why. In one of my classes we read Steinbeck's 'Grapes fo Wrath'. And though I find that I dislike this book, though I have not overcome this, I have tunred what was at first a depth of hatred for it to a respect and mild dislike. THe book holds value, a point that is too valuable not to read and learn about. I was very lucky in that my professor helped to explain the significance of the book, of it's layers of meaning. And through this I was able to see the value, and even learned about myself and our society. i think it is a powerful act to overcome a dislike of a book. Though to some it may seem silly, it shows a desire for knowledge and understanding that I deeply respect, so thank you so much for sharing this.

Thanks so much for your comment, Megan. And El Galan: I draw the line at Twilight too.
