Okay, so you probably know the Son of Sobek, right? Percy Jackson and Carter Kane from the KC in a book together. You don't think it can get better than that. Oh, wait it can, because now, actually, on may 20th Sadie and Annabeth are in book together. That just blew my mind! Is yours too? Comment below, WE NEED TO DISCUSS THIS!! IMMEDIATELY!

Derek | 55 comments I knew this cross-over was coming a few weeks ago, forgot where I read about it though.

Personally I wish Rick would have picked anyone but Annabeth to be in this cross-over. While a cross-over between characters sounds fun, I just don't know that Annabeth can provide the same entertainment provided in the previous book. I have nothing against Annabeth, but part of the joy in Son of Sobek was both Carter and Percy showing off their powers.

Depending on when this book fits into the timeline, Annebeth might be able to turn invisible with her NY Cap, she might or might not have her Laptop, and she might have her dagger or her sword. Even her smarts and battle plans really wouldn't be that effective with no knowledge on Egypt.

That just seems to be too many "mights". While Sadie and Annabeth may need to work together to defeat a monster. I just don't see them being able to impress or "OOh Ahh" each other to same way that Percy and Carter did.

I will still read it and probably love it :D

I guess, your right. But I don't really care about their fighting scenes. I'm more excited to just read their conversations! Sadie is a clever sarcastic person and Annabeth is one, too. So I know I'm going to be cracking up over every single thought and words they say.

Derek | 55 comments Yeah their similar personalities might make them friends or they might simply end up hating each other.

I'm sure that the book will be similar in (2) aspects to the previous Son of Sobek.
1) The cast list will be short, (SOS had only Percy, Carter, and some neighborhood kids). I'm sure this will be similar with Annabeth and Sadie.
2) The main characters will do everything they can, to be vague about themselves and their affiliation to higher powers.

While I can’t wait to read Staff of Serapis, I kinda wish it would cover more than just 2 characters. I’m more curious about the bigger picture if all 4 were to meet (Percy, Annabeth, Carter, and Sadie). I want to know things like, If Sadie starts poking fun at Percy, would Annabeth laugh or become defensive. Same thing for Sadie and Percy, if Percy pokes fun at Carter, what would Sadie’s reaction be. (I know it sounds like I don’t want them to get along….I really do, but I enjoy reading about loyalties)

Yeah, that would be awesome too! That would hilarious and I would love to see their reactions on that too. Maybe that will be the next cross over. It would probably be either that or Warden and Grover.

Well there are supposed to be 3 crossovers, so i'm hoping that the 3rd will have more then just 2 characters. Might even be fun to see Nico and Walt. Kinda want to see Freak and Blackjack too. (here I am pitching ideas for book 3, when I haven't read book 2, sheesh)

Book 2, is not even out yet. Where I still haven't read Son of Sobek, because I don't have the time. Curse you other books! Anyway, did I say Warden instead of Walt!? Well I meant Walt. Oh, on the other half the cross-overs aren't even that long to have really a full staff. It almost like a short-story. The book is only available by buying the Mark of Athena paperback, (I believe, that's the book) and the e-book.

Raychylle, I'm with you there, not writing a fanfic for Nico and Anubis, but needing to write . . . I really need to write V.V

Derek | 55 comments Well I couldn't wait, so now I've read The Staff of Serapis. Great story, you won't be disappointed with their conversations M.I.A. Anyone who hasn't already read Son of Sobek, I suggest you do that first. It's not that you would really miss anything, but the differences between the books are amazing. Well, read my SOS post for details about that book. This book was done right. This book has a much better story line, better dialoge, better imagery, and seems about twice as long.

Great read.

Awesome! That is wonderful! Now I really want to read SOS and this new SOS!

message 20: by Derek (new)

Derek | 55 comments Crap, didn't realize that both were SOS initials. Guess I will call 'em by their full titles from now on.

Or just use old SOS to refer to Son of Sobek and new SOS for Staff of Serapis! Ta da!

Interesting link, the following few paragraphs are from it.

Most interesting to his fans, however, were the tidbits Riordan dropped about his upcoming projects. First on the list was the mention of two of his previous short stories, “The Son of Sobek” and “The Staff of Serapis,” which feature Percy Jackson and Carter Kane, and Annabeth Chase and Sadie Kane, respectively.

His next short story will be titled, “The Crown of Ptolemy,” and will have all four of those characters in one place. And for those of you who have been missing Percy’s voice, just know that this one will be told from Percy’s perspective from start to finish.

Another project Riordan is working on (and finishing up quite soon, as a matter of fact) is his new book Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes. This is a companion book of sorts to Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods and will serve the same purpose as a reference book, but instead of detailing the lives of the Greek gods, it’ll detail the lives of the Greek heroes. The cover for that will be out next week.

Lastly, Riordan spoke of Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, his new series about Norse mythology. He was pretty quiet about any spoilers for this trilogy, but he did say readers can find a clue to Magnus’ relation to Annabeth in Blood of Olympus. Happy digging, demigods!

Derek | 55 comments Incase anyone is interested, the following is from Blood of Olympus (it's the relation scene, no story spoilers, but I will hide it just incase)

These guys have really close and similar personalities, so they would either be best friends or worst enemies. That's what happens with people who have similar personalities.
