What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Hi, I don't remember many details but here it goes. I put spoiler tags in case anyone wants to read the book.
The main character is a struggling painter who is pretty much obsessed with painting and also a part time prostitute because no one is buying his art. I remember he slept with his landlord's boyfriend for less rent and maybe a cop. He gets into a relationship with the guy who agrees to display his paintings (view spoiler)[ but later finds out that the guy only agreed because he likes him not his paintings. The boyfriend is found dead and we later find out the mc had a sort of breakdown and did it. (hide spoiler)] Sad book but the writing is good.

yeah between the main character and the gallery owner (or some job that deals with paintings). location was somewhere in america I think. I don't really remember much and i'm not fluent in english. if anyone knows some good angst, suggestions are appreciated.
