"I'll Give You the Sun" is the story of a set of twins who discover secrets about themselves, their family and each other. Nelson uses juxtaposition to contrast between the two as they tell the story from their own points of view. They switch places, alternating between trying to blend in with the rest of society and trying to act out against it. Their parents are juxtapositions of one another, just like them, one thinking in black and white and the other being mistaken for supernatural. They also attend two different schools, one being the elite art school for "aliens," and the other main stream. The two siblings struggle through the book to re-find themselves and eventually end up finally re-finding each other.
