Who out there has read much Bulgakov? Just chanced upon 'Black Snow' in a bookshop and want to read it a.s.a.p. I have previously read 'Master and Margarita', 'Diaboliad' and 'Heart Of A Dog'. Every time I read a book by him, I wonder why I haven't read more. Would love to hear anyone's else's thoughts and opinions on him and his work.

He was a doctor by the way, in many of his books he describes his career.
Yes Vusal, I have also asked for 'A Country Doctors Notebook' for Christmas. I love his prose style, it is very modern and love his dark humour and often bizarre plot and storylines.
I have read Master And Margarita. My daughter read it in Russian and said it was even better! She really loves how he writes.
Interesting Cosmic, I really need to re-read Master And Margarita. It is some years since I read it and need to be reminded of its brilliance. Read it in Russian? Your daughter must be very talented!

In russian descriptions and portraits of characters are better than in english version of book
The short stories within Diaboliad are very good, Sara. Definitely worth a try, I enjoyed The Fatal Eggs. But, I would read The White Guard as well. Be indulgent!
I read the Master and Margarita for another online course - it was intriguing, but I had some difficulty with it - I am curious what the new book in Feb/March 2016 will be
I've read "The Master and Margarita" and several of the novellas/short stories. I'd like to read "The White Guard" which, I gather, is quite different in style.
I just finished discussing "A Country Doctor's Notebook" at my library's Russian Literature Group this morning. Thus far it has been one of our favorite (if not *the* favorite) of our readings. We loved the stories for their strong plots, engaging main character, and modern feel. Glenny's translation is top-notch.
After this positive experience, I'm definitely planning on reading "The Master & Margarita" and "Heart of the Dog" at the very least. Though I may get to "The White Guard" first since I have it at the office right now. One day, I'd also like to get ahold of his plays, since that's what he was famous for during his lifetime.

That's interesting to read, Oleg. I think that I must read that next. I watched a tv series a couple of years ago of A Country Doctors Notebook and was very impressed by its realism and dark humour.
I began reading The Master & Margarita, but I decided I would wait until I had a clear mind to read it more wholeheartedly. I included Bulgakov in a Powerpoint presentation I did about 20th century Russian literature in my Soviet Russia class.

Hey Josh, I'd be interested in seeing that Powerpoint. Is it possible for you to forward it to me? (lifeinoleg@gmail.com)
