Why you should read it: 1) Female protagonist that is 100% believable. Seriously, she's amazingly written and undergoes lots of developments. I was worried because its a male author, but honestly, he wrote a female better than most of the female authors I read (which is a lot). I love all aspects of her which is rare. She's intelligent, authoritative, has a sense of humor, and a bad ass. She can be a special snowflake but doesn't rely on it or care about it. She even kills people without much remorse. No moaning and groaning about humanity. Just business.
2) No romance! There are attractive men, but nothing more. No part of the story is dedicated to swooning, courting, or irrational decisions based on sexually driven content. I can't stress enough how refreshing it is to read a female perspective without having a romance thrown in.
3) Sisterhood! Legitimate female friendships. No petty girl drama. These are grown women who support each other. It's wonderful to read strong female relationships that accurately describe real bonding between women. There's also vagina jokes- they're pretty great.
4) Super powers!!! Creepy, weird, unsettling super powers and a secret organization to utilize these super powers to save the world!
This is a great read. It's a story about a woman with amnesia. You learn about the previous Myfanwy and journey with the new Myfanwy, falling in love with both. I can't wait to read the next book!!
I read The Rook a few years ago. I was amazed and pleased at the surprise as I started the story. Not at all what I expected but very excited as I delved further in! Can't wait to read Stiletto the continuing saga.
