Lark Benobi (larkbenobi) Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya. Like the film Pather Panchali this novel portrays fully realized, impoverished characters in a way that is loving and is never condescending or sentimentalized.

Luaunna | 6 comments I found Nectar in a Sieve ( a second hand copy) in a tiny bookstore. It was sad, gut wrenching, but beautifully written. Parts of the story are still vivid in my mind.
