This month, Mashable's social book club MashableReads is reading 'City on Fire' by Garth Risk Hallberg!
The novel follows a cast of characters -- teenage punks, gay artists, wealthy heirs, a journalist and a detective, just to name a few -- as they navigate New York City in the '60s and 70s. When a New Year's Eve shooting leaves one teen in a coma, this seemingly disparate collection of characters find themselves suddenly connected as each tries to solve this violent mystery, all the while carving out a life for themselves in New York City.

Moving and beautiful, 'City on Fire' is about what happens when the walls we put up suddenly come crashing down, making even the biggest city seem insular and claustrophobic.
