Suspense is a feeling of uncertainty and anxiety about the outcome of certain actions, most often referring to an audience's perceptions in a dramatic work.

Paranormal books involve unusual experiences that lack a scientific explanation. Some popular subjects in paranormal books are supernatural creatures, ESP, clairvoyance, ghosts, UFOs, telepathy, and psychics.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments description

A coming-of-age story is a genre of literature that focuses on the growth of a protagonist from youth to adulthood ("coming of age").
Coming-of-age stories tend to emphasize dialogue or internal monologue over action, and are often set in the past. The subjects of coming-of-age stories are typically males in their mid teens.
Themes of maturation, acculturation, loss of innocence, wisdom or acumen, and worldliness are often present.

Gisbelle | 25787 comments April : Cyberpunk

Cyberpunk, a subgenre of science fiction in a future setting, focuses on the society featuring advanced technological and scientific achievements. The plots often center on conflict among artificial intelligence and among mega-corporations, and tend to be set in a future Earth, rather than in the far-future settings.

MAY GENRE: BOARDING SCHOOL

This genre is for books that take place in boarding schools.

JUNE GENRE: SURVIVAL

This genre is a fiction or non-fiction book focusing on a person or group of people who must brave the elements, natural disasters, weather or other circumstances in order to survive.

JULY GENRE: ROAD TRIP

But what is a road trip novel? What makes one book a road tale and another a vacation story? Dictionary.com says a road trip is “a journey via automobile, sometimes unplanned or impromptu.” Well…yes and no. A road trip novel does not always need to be in a car (sometimes there’s walking, swimming, horse-riding, sailing, etc., involved). But it needs to be about a journey where the road provides both geographical and narrative structure.

AUGUST GENRE: WAR

A war novel is a novel in which the primary action takes place in a field of armed combat, or in a domestic setting (or home front) where the characters are preoccupied with the preparations for, or recovery from, war.

SEPTEMBER GENRE: POETRY

Poetry is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its apparent meaning. Poetry may be written independently, as discrete poems, or may occur in conjunction with other arts, as in poetic drama, hymns or lyrics.

OCTOBER GENRE: ALTERNATE UNIVERSES

** Alternate Universe (often abbreviated as "AU") is a descriptor used to characterize fanworks which change one or more elements of the source work's canon. Also may be known as multiverse. The various universes within the multiverse are called "parallel universes", "other universes" or "alternate universes."

NOVEMBER GENRE: REALISTIC FICTION

Realistic Fiction seems like real life, with characters dealing with real life problems. The plot often takes place in the present time. The situations are true or could be, but the main characters are fictional.

DECEMBER: HOLIDAYS

These are either a nonfiction book with facts about a holiday or a fictional story in which a character celebrates a holiday.

* any Holiday is okay
