Sorry, but I'm Team Gale all the way, and it's not because he's hot. It's because she frickin grew up with him, hunted with him, survived with him, and duh, of course he fell in love with her. Meanwhile, this one blonde kid gave her a piece of bread once, and then stalked her for the rest of her life, and she is soooo grateful to him. You know what? I bet Gale was gnawing his fingernails off, worrying about Katniss, while they couldn't get food.

I think your points do have a lot of merit. But in the end, Gale gave into his anger toward the Capitol. No matter how justified his feelings were, he was willing to bomb innocent Capitol children in order to get to Snow, killing Prim in the process. Gale may be devoted and loyal to Katniss, but by the climax of Mockingjay, he's not the same boy she grew up with. It'd be almost impossible for Katniss to forgive him, and how could she love him if she's going to hold Prim's death against him forever? These are just my thoughts, but feel free to share yours.

Sure, he messed up there, but you COULD say it was Katniss' fault because she turned him away unfairly and he was scarred from that. However, you could ALSO say that he should have been more mature than to turn against innocent people because of that. However, he was mostly using his anger to fuel his efficiency in working against the Capitol.

Also, Katniss messed up many times too. I'm on her side, but she made a ton of mistakes. She wasn't perfect either. She was also kinda selfish and I honestly think that Gale cared more for her being happy and her family being happy than she did for him sometimes.

Let's just keep this a friendly fight, though! :)

Sorry, I'm sort of a debate-y person, and I like to hear what other people think. I started off shipping K/P, and that biased me against Gale once I started reading Catching Fire. I'm curious how other, less stubborn people (I take my ships to the grave :P) saw Gale in the trilogy.

I have no doubt that there were a lot of other people who would have bombed the kids, but Gale willingly chose to work on the bombs. He was most likely fully aware that civilian casualties were a possibility, and while it's impossible that he could have anticipated Prim's death, he knew that innocent people were going to die. I definitely feel bad for him (can't even imagine how terrible he felt after what happened), but that doesn't change the fact that Prim is dead.

And as you said, Katniss is selfish. The person most important to her, more important than Gale or Peeta, was Prim. I'm not sure that she has the emotional capacity to forgive the person who, even if just indirectly, took Prim away from her, even if it was Gale. Katniss was willing to have the Capitol children participate in their own Hunger Games, after all.

Honestly, if Katniss and Gale existed in a world without all of the crap the Capitol put them through, especially the Mockingjay bit, they probably could have been good together. The Capitol, however, changed them: Gale turned angry, Katniss turned bitter.

By the way, what about Peeta made you dislike him? I personally thought he was adorable, but that's just my two cents.

Hey Julia, those are some pretty good points! I haven't read Mockingjay in a while so my memory of the exact storyline is a little blurry. I don't really dislike Peeta, and he IS adorable. It's just... I find him a bit whiny and unreasonable, especially in the first book.

Come to think of it, I haven't actually seen Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2 yet, even though Natalie Dormer's in them...

I'm Team Peeta all the way, I was unsure of him because like a lot of people I was like "who is this kid showing up out of nowhere." Then Gale started to change (especially in Mockingjay!) and Peeta just gets Katniss, he balances her out, he alone knows what she's been through, he's there to comfort her through her nightmares, and like Katniss says herself, she doesn't need Gale's rage, she needs a dandelion, someone who represents peace. And Peeta really is a sweetheart, I'm a sucker for those :) Also I prefer the artistic type xD

I'm Team Peeta all the way! I mean, I don't understand why people say he threw her bread and she fell in love with him, because it wasn't just that. Sure, he gave her bread that saved her life, but you could tell he really cared about her, whereas Gale half the time in the books I felt for some reason he was faking it. Sorry if you don't agree with me! That is just my opinion!

Veronica and Logan from Veronica Mars (I can include this for book characters now, thanks to Rob Thomas writing two books to continue the series).

Also, although I've only read the first book and watched the first two movies, I'm in agreement with Grace on this one as I prefer Katniss with Gale. Not because I don't like Peeta, because I personally love him and would definitely choose him for myself, but I just think Katniss and Gale go together so much better. My opinion may, of course, change once I've read the next two books but so far it just doesn't seem like Katniss cares about Peeta at all really (I edited and cleaned up my language a bit there, as I nearly used a different expression). She just seems to want to use him to help herself, whereas she always seems to genuinely care about Gale. I know she's partly trying to shut herself off to Peeta as she has to compete against him but, even so, most of the time she just doesn't seem to actually like him that much. Plus I agree that I think she has more chemistry with Gale.

I loved Veronica and Logan together, I was glad they kind of had an happy ending in the movie!

Well, Gale was a good friend to her, (view spoiler)[but he really changed in the next two books. His hate for the Capitol took over and I know we don't really know what happened, but my feelings are that he killed Prim. (hide spoiler)]

I agree with you. If you just watch the movies then I can see why some people prefer Gale to Peeta. But if you read the books then you realize that Gale has a much darker side to him, one that Katniss begins to truly see throughout the series, especially in Mockingjay. Suzanne Collins really breaks it down for the readers when she (as Katniss) says that Peeta is "light" and that Katniss needs that light, she needs the daffodil in the meadow, the boy with the bread. Katniss has "darkness" within her (but let's be honest, basically everyone in that book does, even *sniff* Peeta) and she knows that it would only fester with Gale. I get unnervingly passionate about this whole issue, haha, I'm usually not one for YA romance but Katniss & Peeta are my heart.

Rowan and Celaena are my loves. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

@Harper I think that that is what happened with Gale. I dont think he meant for that to happen, but after that there is no hope for Kat to be with him ever.
