HOW TO ADD PHOTOS TO YOUR COMMENTS
Another popular question is how do I add photos to my posts. Google "photobucket" (there are many other sources but that's a good place to start). Select the photo you want and to the left you'll see a box that has the "html" text that will allow that photo to appear on other sites. Copy the text and paste it into your post. Preview your post and you will see that the picture appears, not the text.

Easter at my house - My little cat Poppy; I rescued her from a storm drain at 5 weeks old and boy, has she landed on her feet! That is my bed and she is on an antique quilt!

Lovely cat!!!
I'm missing one in my new house: my old old one - 18 years - died last september and knowing that we were about to move I didn't want to stress a kitten
Now I'm waiting a new little one: my daughter's friend's cat's has had her kittens. In a week or so we'll have a new cat in the house

Our two very spoilt boxers Bella and Moses. And that is an $1800 armchair they have commandeered. Photo taken in our old house.

Your pets are so cute! They are the masters of the house and I like it :D
It was that way also with my cat.

@Laura, me too, I miss a lot a cat but I know I can't take another one, at least now. Perhaps one day again.

Chrissie Pets and kids, aren't they the best?! They are the best and most valuable of all jewels, Laura.

I love ALL of these photos. Thank you.

OK, here is one with a dog, a big dog, on our bed: https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...

It is Skye, the curly coated retriever we had before Oscar.

I don't know how to put the photo here but the link will take you to all my photos here at GR.

Chrissie, Skye and Oscar are simply gorgeous. Yes, where would we be without our pets; the silent sentinels to our lives.

message 16: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) This is my very oldest photographic image. It is so old that it dates from before photographic film, and is on glass. The picture shows my great-grandmother as a baby, being held by her mother, my great-great-grandmother. (It's even older than you might think. I am retired, and the youngest daughter of a youngest daughter!)

 photo L1919-42R_zpsdf5e06e0.jpg

It worked!! Thank you Bette :) - a bit of trial and error but I'm started now! Just need to fiddle some more to get the image a bit smaller next time.

A photo using Photobucket! Thanks B3tt3. Oscar and I in France......

Oh well, it didn't work......... It worked today! I instead clicked on the uploaded picture and then a little bolt appeared in the upper right hand corner. There I clicked get links, then the links tab, then copied the "embedded html" text as you explained.

I have a program that enlarges text on my screen. I turned that off before trying this today. Maybe that is why it worked today and not uyesterday. i will have to test so I know that too.

THANK you!!!

Jean: that's GREAT! I have a similar photoe of my greatgrandmother, but it's a copy. It's in a picture with the "maternal line": my great grand mother, my grandmother, my mother and myself almost at the same age, around 20.
The first photo is of a woman with two kids! I see if tomorrow morning with sunlight I can take a picture of it and post it here

message 22: by Bionic Jean (last edited Apr 20, 2014 01:19PM) (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I am sad though that I don't even know the name of my great-great-grandmother, (the adult) though could probably find the name of the baby with a bit of digging... And I expect an expert in fashion could date it fairly precisely from the dress and hairstyle.

Chrissie, there are quite a lot of stages to work through once you find "Photobucket" on Google, but it's just a case of following the instructions really.

Then when you're up to Bette's part about displaying the photo, the part on the left (as she said) you need to click is the "link" logo; it looks like a paperclip. If I can stumble my way through it all, anyone can :D

Oh Jean, you gotta get digging. My mum and I traced her family back to 1526; it was such fun and so enlightening. It helped that my auntie worked at the State Library and had access to heaps of data. Also we knew Mum's g-grandfather was in Burke's Peerage so that info help.

I've PM'd Chrissie a step-by-step for photos and between us, she might get her photos up yet, here's hoping. I've seen Chrissie's doggies in her Profile photos and they're super gorgeous.

I adore the photo you posted, Jean!

message 24: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) 1526 - wow! That is amazing!

Yes, because it's on glass it doesn't show up at all when it has white behind it - very odd! It took me a bit of experimenting before I realised the image shows best when it has black paper behind. It's a shame it's damaged, but not surprising, I suppose.

Chrissie Jean, that is a great photo. It is quite a treasure to have it.

You don't have to use Photobucket unless you already have photos there. You can upload pictures to your account here and post that way... below are instructions.

"How to Upload and Post a Picture

Q: 'I'd like to post a pic. Don't know how.'

A: (1) Click on your icon picture (the one that appears to the left of the post above) twice, and it will take you to your picture page, like this one for me:

http://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/1...

(2) For the owner of the page there is a link to the top right of it that says "add more photos" which will let you upload new pictures to your home page. Use this to upload your pictures.

(3) Once your picture uploads click on the "largest size" link at the top right corner of the picture. This will take you to the picture's URL. It will take you to the picture URL alone, like so:

http://d.gr-assets.com/photos/1355448...

(4) Above your comment box on the thread you want to post on, there is a link that says "(some html is ok)." Click on it and a pop up will appear. 5 bullet points down from the top there is an HTML tag to append an image, which you can select from the < sign to the > sign, inclusive, cut and paste into your comment box, as below:

< img src="http://www.goodreads.com/image..." width="40" height="100" alt="description"/>

(5) Then go back to the picture alone page from (3) above, select and copy that URL, and replace the URL in the tag, making sure the URL is within the double quotes.

(6) You can adjust the width and height in the tag to fit the picture to, say, 400, 400. I generally do an edit of the post and re-adjust it the picture looks stretched in one direction.

And there is your picture post. :^)

Using Flickr etc
Of course you can upload your pictures to somewhere like Flickr or Photobucket, which you can do by drag and drop, and you can cut and paste that URL into your img html tag to get it to appear on your post.

http://www.flickr.com/

The only thing is that you need the URL that end in ".jpg" etc depending on the image format.

How to get the image URL

* Internet Explorer: Right click on a proper size image (not a thumb print) of the image and select "Properties". The URL is given on the third line on the second tab.

* Google Chrome: Right click on the proper size image of the picture and simply select "Copy Image URL."

* Apple Safari: Right click on the proper size image of the picture and simply select "Copy Image Address."

message 27: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments By the way, it took me a while to figure out that the height, width, and description were all optional. Also, width and height don't actually need to be in quotes (so instead of width="40" you can type width=40).

message 28: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Leslie, thanks for your advice too. MY, you know all the different systems!!! what an expert you are.I jiggled a little bit with Bette's instructions and it worked.

message 29: by B the BookAddict (new)

No, it's not my cat. It's the cat of my terrace neighbor. Every time I go on my terrace she (the cat, not the neighbor) comes to greet me and stays a little bit with me.

You're lucky in a way, Sally, you never have to go thru pet-deaths.

The vet and I have agreed I must have my beloved boxer Bella who's 12 put to sleep in the next few weeks and I will be bereft. As will Moses, my 9yr old boxer who thinks Bella is his mama.

Chrissie Bette, my heart goes out to you. Five years ago I had to go through that with my last curly and it was just horrible. I don't know how to give you comfort. You and Moses can help each other through this. I didn't have another dog. My solution to this is to immediately start looking for another dog. No, the new dog will not be the same but will bring different, new, happy experiences and only because you have had such a wonderful relationship with your previous dog do you understand that by getting another one you are honoring those good memories. Each dog is special in their own way.

message 45: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Bette - I'm so sorry. But may I just agree wholeheartedly with what Chrissie said. Nothing can prepare you, but yes, choose another pet as soon as you possibly can. Please don't make the mistake so many people do of thinking it's somehow "disloyal". It isn't, and it does help.

We have had 3 dogs and with the second I always felt so lucky to have a young dog when I saw all the "oldies" on our walks. So I was devastated to lose him, all within a day, when he was only about 4 (border collies are very long-lived.) In a way I always will be.

But within a week we had another. They are all totally different, but you can't just ignore your new pet. They won't let you :)

Chrissie Bette, if you need to talk to someone about the impending loss of Bella, drop me a PM. Deciding when is horrible too.

I didn't agree with the end of Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog, but the book is great. Although I would not recommend reading it just now.
