A close encounter with an asteroid has knocked Earth off its axis. An ice age is underway. People are fleeing in droves. Joe Storn, whom we met at the end of REFUGE, Book 1 in the series, says to the assembled people, "Have I got a story for you!"
LIFELINE, a prequel as sequel to Refuge, begins that story. Joe and his crew, back in Luna following a 150-year space trip, most of it in cryostasis, to repower earlier ships with a faster drive are greeted as heroes. Almost at once, though, they're shanghaied and Joe becomes admiral of a fleet of seven vast ships bound for an Earth-like planet one thousand years distant. He doesn't want the job, but since the seven ships carry all the knowledge of Earths ages, millions of "corpscicles" as well as DNA from every living thing that will otherwise be lost forever, he must accept. Like or not, he is humanity's LIFELINE.
