I really like Genya and Alina's friendship. It may not be perfect but I like it even more because of that.I want to see a lot more f Genya in R&R. I bet she has tons to say... Also I'm intrigued about her powers. She seems like a very powerful Grisha to me.
SPOILER ALERT!!!! I can't believe what the Darkling did to her! They seemed so close in the Tailor... BUT I'M STILL SHIPPING DARKLINA!
Genya is seriously the best.....she's a very complicated character but I respect her a lot. Everyone treated her like she was basically just a servant, and I understand her motivation for poisoning the king. But what the Darkling did to her was totally wrong and inexcusable. I also agree that there should be a lot about her in R&R. I'd love to know about her past.
I know this sort of sounds like I'm trying to make excuses for the Darkling's mistakes, (which I am because I'm totally infatuated with him) but isn't it possible that since Genya is a Tailor, she could've just changed her appearance to look like she was mauled by some very hungry and scary shadow thingmajigs? (I forgot how to spell it... nicheyova or something? oh I think I just spelled it right. Hm.) The Darkling and Genya, as I said before, seemed to be close, and he didn't seem to be indifferent to her like other people. So, he could've just made her change herself instead of hurting her. Right now I'm just making some big time excuses for the Darkling. SO YOU BETTER PROVE YOURSELF IN R & R AND NOT DISAPPOINT ME!!! and just, ya know, hook up with Alina? pwease?
Genya was one of the many, many, many reasons I loved Shadow and Bone to pieces and I missed her SO MUCH whenever she wasn't in Siege and Storm. I'm hoping there's soo much more of her in R&R. I'm also totally shipping Genya and David - Gavid? Denya? ;)Oh, and I also am so conflicted over what the Darkling did to her... I HATE him for doing it, and yet I just can't hate the Darkling... Agh, too many feels!!!
And I agree: Genya totally needs her own book - she has so much potential and sooo many powers that haven't been explored yet, I think!
Oh, pleaz, can you just stop quoting the Darkling for every little bad in the book ? Anyway, As much as I love this character, this topic is about Genya. *sigh*I'm sure this one will play an important part in R&R since there is an obvious similitude with the Fire bird. What do you think ?
And about her couple with David, I feel like it will end up tragically..
Uhm, what the Darkling did to Genya is a HUGE part of the book. And I worry about how she will be in Ruin and Rising. If there are any side effects. But anyway. I adore Genya. She is an amazing character. And I love how she loves David. <3
I love Genya, the friendship she has with Alina makes me smile. I do think what the Darkling did to her is TERRIBLE but, the Darkling, in my opinion, is lost in his own darkness. His lust for power consumed him and on light can bring him back. In an eclipse the sun eventually comes out from behind the moon and shines over the dark, lighting it up. DARKLINA <3

"I didn't think she felt like she had a choice." ( Something like that in S&S ) I think she feels like she owned the Darkling something since, as explained in The Tailor, her tries to protect her and gave her the option to be free from the King or stay.
Yes, everyone has a choice and Genya certainly chose. I think she just chose the Darkling and believes he will free her from the king--and she probably hates the king more than anyone. This is random but re-reading The Tailor. Genya gives the Darkling all the letters Alina wrote to Mal. I wonder if he read them.
I think he must have, it's like she serves him...I guess since he rescued her from the King and the rumors...

Hehehe the thought of the Darkling being jealous of Mal just appeared in my mind.....

Lol oh he was definitely jealous. The scene that gave it away for me was when Alina asked where Mal was at the end of S&B, and the Darkling's hand clenched on the glass he was holding. Subtle gesture, but one does not clench their hand unless they're angry. lolThen I think it's the same scene out of no where he says "Just what kind of life do you think you could have with him?"
I remember thinking whoa, where did THAT come from? lol
Nikolia and the Darkling battle for the love of Aline tonight on the Ravaka News Live TV channel!!!!!! :) LOL

I think that's how you spell it actually.
Him, he creeps me out.

He reminds me of a creepy old man, wait he is one.
Has anyone seen Year One? Because I imagine the Oliver Platt as the Apparat now. He played a creepy priest, haha. Seriously Google "Oliver Platt Year One" or watch a Youtube clip. He was hilariously creepy.
Re-reading The Tailor. I LOVE this line from the Darkling to Genya:"Do not let them humble you," he says softly.
Genya is confident and proud, and he doesn't want the queen's jealousy (and those at court) to let Genya think less about herself. He doesn't want her confidence to waver because those at court try to bring her down.
Genya knows she's pretty, she knows she's talented, and to be honest that isn't a flaw to me. It makes me love her more because she's awesome and acknowledges it.
Caitlyn wrote: "Nikolia and the Darkling battle for the love of Aline tonight on the Ravaka News Live TV channel!!!!!! :) LOL"and the Apparat is the Narrator? hahaha wouldn't miss it for the world!!!
Ha! One of my favorite jealous darkling scenes is in the beginning of S&S when Ivan has her heart slowed down so she is unconscious. At one point Ivan is bringing her back to consciousness and a hand is on her face. She thinks it's Mal and says his name. The hand quickly leaves her face and she goes back under. MELT!
Bardugo actually gives us a lot of subtle body language clues that suggest he is quite jealous of Mal from the point where the Darkling (view spoiler) and to the end.

HaHa! Or Caesar Flickerman magically appears out of the Darkling's darkness and starts to narrate.
"Let the 1st annual Fold Games begin!"
@ Jessica. Yes, I love that scene! It was definitely the Darkling's hand that withdrew.@ Maddi. I think so too. Jealousy can be written in many ways. Mal's jealousy is obvious and the Darkling's is subtle.
""Let the 1st annual Fold Games begin!"
OMG this needs to be written. The first to cross the fold and survive wins. :P

I just pictured the Darkling in Snow's place directing the whole thing and Genya the sparky and beautiful woman that accompanies the players. Ohh...
The Darkling's behavior after killing the Stag changed exponentially. What if Alina had stayed with him and hadn't gone off with Mal, maybe the Darkling wouldn't have ended up what he did? Maybe he had a fit of jealousy. Because e know what he did, his new powers and all. But what would have happened if Alina would have been with him? Hmph. Alina might have ended up engulfing the darkness, 'purifying' the Darkling or who knows what.
Back to Genya, ahem, her relationship with David was subtle and had a major turn in the end so I don't really have high for them. It doesn't seem fit in the middle of all the tragedy, their romance so fluffy. Something's missing.
I would LOVE to have seen the scenes where the Darkling was waiting on Alina/Mal to find the stag. I can only imagine what went on in his head besides feeling like a fool.(I'm not super into Genya and David and I don't even know why.)
I think the main problem is that we have way too little on the Darkling. I mean, the barely shows up in the second, is there when Alina chooses to interact with him and so on. We have too much on Mal. (maybe because David rarely speaks? We don't really see many swoon worthy scene. It's like they go from 'I like you but won't tell you' to 'let me love you forever'.)
"I have just met you, and I love you." lol (From UP!)I think we're going to get a lot of Darkling in the third book. It was really lacking in S&S, and that's partly why I felt like something was missing.
I felt that the Genya x David pairing was kind of hollow. It seemed based on mostly "Oooh she is beautiful and he is just some nerd but she falls for him because he isn't like the other boys with their tongues dangling out" and not much else. By the way, does he remind anyone of Henry from The Infernal Devices series? lolIn my opinion, the Darkling's major absence in Siege and Storm was a weak part of the otherwise beautifully written story. It force-fed Mal down my throat to the point where it added to my resentment of him.It was like a Malina cake with a few Darklina sprinkles :(
Weird comparison aside, I hope Ruin and Rising focuses more on the Darkling. If you think about it, we don't actually know very much about him at all.
@MaddieOMG David does seem like Henry!!! They're both crazy inventors and endearing, though I'd say Henry if more like Mr. Weasly from Harry Potter.
I just notice something....( spoilers from The Tailor )When Genya visited The Darkling, he showed a caring side, a side that people don't think exist. If it was him hand that touched Alina's face then maybe he is trying to hide his love for Alina.
Most people probably have noticed this, sorry.....
I definitely think the darkling genuinely loves her. At least as much as someone that selfish and convoluted is capable of loving. In his mind, I think he believes they are made for each other. He has isolated himself to so little familial interaction. 1. He's watched generation after generation die. And 2. He believes himself "other." And he's finally found what he believes to be his counterpart. I think if we could get some internal dialogue of his it would sound similar to Midnight Sun... If Edward Cullen had been Hitler pre-vampire conversion.
Y'all... Can you imagine how FREAKING AWESOME a Darkling POV novella would be???
Caitlyn wrote: "Leigh said she made one but she doesn't know if she should release it. Someone saw it on twitter."That's weird. Why would she go through all the effort and not release it?
"By the way, does he remind anyone of Henry from The Infernal Devices series? lol""Henry and Mr. Weasley's love child. :P David is a little flat for me personally and I agree, the relationship with Genya was a bit hollow. Not as developed as I would have liked.
"It force-fed Mal down my throat to the point where it added to my resentment of him."
I agree. I actually wasn't a huge fan of Mal in S&B mostly because how insecure and negative Alina was about herself regarding him, but I was hoping I'd like him more in S&S. Sadly I just ended up disliking him more.
I really, really want a Darkling POV novel or novella, but seriously the longer the better.I hope she does it at some point.

lol agree! and I will force my way to get the seat in the front row. Oh but I think the Darkling cannot join this because it will be way too easy for him to win it, since the Fold never bothered him anyway
