Victoria | 4 comments For the December Read-a-thon I'm starting with the first book of a series my husband is reading, The Empty City by Erin Hunter. After that I will probably move on to the third book in another series by Erin Hunter, which I'm reading per my little sister's recommendation and our agreement that I will read a "Warriors" book for every Harry Potter book she reads :-)

I'm also reading a couple of chapters of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as I follow along with the global reread podcast "Alohomora."

Goal: 2 books

Completed (1/2):

The Empty City (Survivors, #1) by Erin Hunter (Completed on 12/23/15)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter #7) by J.K. Rowling : Read Chapter 19 on 12/19

In Progress:

Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut : Begun 12/23/15 - 25%

Upcoming?:

Forest of Secrets (Warriors, #3) by Erin Hunter

and Chapter 20 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter #7) by J.K. Rowling

Good luck Victoria! Thanks for joining us!! I think I've heard of Erin Hunter, but I've never read any of her books. What is The Empty City about?

Victoria | 4 comments Erin Hunter writes three different sets of children's fiction books. 1. "Warriors," which is about "warrior cats" in feral cat colonies. My little sister is obsessed with cats and loves those books, so I told her I'd read them if she read Harry Potter (my favorite book series :)).
My husband started to read Warriors with me, but then he stopped and started reading (2.) "Survivors" instead (which is kind of a post-apocalyptic story about packs of dogs) because he's more of a dog-person. He read the first 4 of them in a little over a week and asked me to give it a try. So I'm reading the first one (The Empty City) while I'm waiting for my sister to catch up in Harry Potter.
Erin Hunter also has a series of books about bears called (3.) "Seekers," but I really don't know anything else about those books and I doubt I'll read them :)

The books are okay. I think they have more appeal to children and the writing is very simple, but they're sort of entertaining. :) I like reading the things that my friends and family are into even if I don't like them all that much because it's a way to be closer to them, and I know they like being able to talk to me about these books. :)

Victoria | 4 comments I just realized that I didn't make this post under readathons but under "general." Sorry! Is there any way to fix that?

Also, as an update, I just read Chapter 19 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Sara I fixed it for you Victoria! It's in the Monthly Read a Thon now :)

JadeShea Thanks for taking care of that, Sara!

ANd Victoria that's no problem it happens. I've read a few of the Harry Potter books, but I liked the movies more so I stuck with that.

And that's so cool you read those books because your family does, I do that as well.

Victoria | 4 comments Yes, thank you Sara!

I've forgotten to post updates on my progress, but I just finished The Empty City a few minutes ago. It was pretty good for a children's novel (though not on the level of Harry Potter by any means :))

I think I'm going to delay starting the next Warriors book and try to read Slaughterhouse-Five first. It's the December book of the month for one of my book clubs and it's only like 215 pages, so I will hopefully be able to read it pretty quickly. I've never read anything by Vonnegut, so I'm interested to check out his writing! It will be a nice break from Erin Hunter, too.
