December 28th Thai people commemorate the coronation of King Taksin in 1767.Although his reign was not long, he is remembered for liberating and unifying the Siam people. He built roads and canals and worked to further developments in the arts.
They say he became a religious fanatic and was deposed in a coup in 1782. The family to replace him began the Chakri dynasty which continues to rule today.
