In the first story, Mr.Lapcharoensap captures the melancholy ache of being between cultures, not quite fitting with anyone. His nose is not flat enough for the Thai girls, but he also strikes out with the foreigners. With the monkey boy story he mocks foreigners who may view local inhabitants like zoo animals, enjoying the role of the voyeur but without truly engaging. Quick reading and engaging, if a bit sad.
