For ages, men have treated women like toys. They would play with them, use them, torture them and at times, destroy them.

That December brought about a new change, a new revolution when the entire nation stood together for a single cause; for that single woman who fought for her life, went through that horror when her body simply meant a source of entertainment for some bloody beasts. The gang rape that shook the world and brought the nation on to the streets.

Every day as I tried to imagine the atrocities that girl must have undergone on that dreadful night only brought quivers to my body and soul. Where had all the morality vanished from earth? Were we, women, always meant to live in fear, behave like puppets for the ever-demanding desires of selfish men? Did God forget to add a chapter on women’s prerogative when He was designing and creating this world? Or maybe HE himself was a man; the distinguished ruler whom nobody could question; who could make and amend His own rules as per His wishes and desires.

I hoped that the outrage would put an end to the centuries-old egotism of the ‘half species’ called men; the other ‘better half’ being women. That it would bury the unholy and unjustified pride of the so-called masculine power which indeed was hollow and baseless; the creation of a sick and pestiferous mind.
