Future of Promotion

This is a hard one - I joined this group quite a while ago, but mostly as a reader not an author. But because I AM an author, it makes me reluctant to interact much on the group, like suggestions for group reads etc, because of the possible perception of bias. And sadly I don't get to read as much in the genre as I used to due to time constraints. So I tend to stay quietly in the background! Personally if I have a promotion running I wouldn't even post it in the relevant section for my Goodreads groups as I feel most other group members are never going to go there looking, so it's probably pointless. I may be totally wrong about this though. :-) So generally I'd be in favor of a short period before deletion, 30 days sounds good, so anyone who does go looking only sees the most up to date info. And yes, topics specifying genre/age group would be helpful I think. Good luck with the revamp! (pun totally intended)
Oh, and one topic per author sounds fair. Though if someone happened to have one book that was adult and another that was YA and both on promotion I suppose they'd have to choose which to list, as they'd need to be in different places - or did I misunderstand your intention? (sorry, I'm probably confusing two things here)
I'd say 30 or 60 days. That is enough time to mention new releases, sales, blog tours or whatever. I know another group I'm in says the author can set up a thread and only there can they post about their news. So AUTHOR A thread etc.
Perhaps general discussions about age groups?
Adina you are fine. I understand the different places thing, currently its all in one. we were thinking of mentioning in the topic name that book was YA etc. but i suppose we could have a YA or Non YA promo areas.
AL , Age groups are important YA can be grouped into -10, 10-13, 13-15 and 16+ or it could be generalised into YA.
this is what we want to work out. My idea was to specify if the author felt it needed it in the topic header but not in the name. but others may want it mentioned in the topic name.
i thought also to cut down on confusion just to generalise it and if it has adult themes to label it appropriately.
and of course if it is "erotica" (strong sex scenes etc) to label it 18+ in the topic name regardless. after all we are not all adults on this site and we do have 18+ areas in this group.

Adele wrote: "Thank you Allan, what do you think about the topic restrictions? and alternate namings?"I definitely think age/genre are extremely important, so yes to that for sure.
Finally, i'd say one topic per Author would be a nice idea.
All of this combined sounds like a good way of keeping the place from getting too cluttered and allow for some 'safe' promoting as well. Don't want to get the wrong age group reading things they shouldn't.
Great topic, thanks for bringing it up.
so it's decided 30 days expiry.
however naming still needs a bit of finality to it.
I'll keep this topic open till the end of the month.

we have not had problems with this except now we are finding Authors are joining the group just for promotional purposes.
whilst this has not been a problem we have found we are at over 2000 members and we have a lot of members who have just joined as a means to promote their book/ blog/service/competition.
this leaves the group clogged with promotion, and we are never too sure when is the appropriate time to delete the topic so we can unclog the group.
Also topics are spread out throughout the group, we want topics to be named correctly.
so this is what we want to know:
-should we allow One Topic per Author or Per Book?
-Naming of Topics to include such things as Genre and Age group (mainly for distinction of YA and 18+ books)
all members have the right to have a say on the promotion within the group. we value everyone's opinion.
the Moderators have a rough idea of what we want, we just want to know what you think.
this topic and discussion will end on 31st Jan 2016
