Virginia Rand What's it about? I'm sorry to say it, but a free book isn't enticement enough if a person doesn't know if they like it. Make it sound like something worth paying to experience! :-D

Jason Parent | 123 comments Good point Virginia! I have posted the synopsis below as well as a link to the book.

An award-winning horror/mystery with loads of dark comedy!

Inside all of us, there is darkness. Inside Clive, it's tangible, and it's aching to get out.

What Hides Within tells the story of a man held captive by an unknown evil. Clive Menard is a spineless slacker leading an ordinary existence. But when Chester enters his life, it becomes far from ordinary.

A disheveled Clive stands alone in a hospital waiting room. A series of incidences have led him to undergo unnecessary neurosurgery. A voice inside Clive’s head nags him to kill the doctor.

Weeks prior, a murder investigation and an unrelated kayaking excursion set the story’s interlocking events in motion. When a remorseful killer, a bomb-happy psychopath and a mysterious widow spider converge upon Clive, they bring with them destruction and death. Clive must discover who or what is steering his very existence before he, too, is consumed by the carnage around him.

With a driven detective following his every step and a vicious killer hiding within his circle of friends, Clive must walk a narrow and dangerous path, teetering between salvation and damnation. He must confront Chester and his own demons. But is he powerless to overcome them?

An EPIC Finalist, "Best Horror of 2013" read and eFestival eBook Award Runner-Up for Best Horror.

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) I did, too. It has a dream sequence that I'm particularly fond of.

Pierre There is a little something about this book that just sits there in my mind and won't let me forget it, even after having read it several months ago.
Great fun! :-)

If its the pseudo-sexual one, that scene by far gets the most comments. I did not know it would affect people in so many different ways. The dominant reaction seems to be: o_O followed by "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Thanks Pierre, but after reading my book, I hope there's nothing sitting in your mind at the moment, at least not on a literal level.

My mother did not. :)

Char LOL!! It must be very weird to have your mom be reading something like that. It's kind of creepy actually.

It tends to come and go, especially at night. :-)

Hiya, Pierre! Hope you have been doing well. Haven't seen you around lately, but I think that's because my schedule inverted.

Pierre Hey Jason,

I've been keeping a lower profile for the past few weeks. I needed to recharge my batteries and being on vacation currently is doing wonders for that. :-)

Jason Parent | 123 comments Hope your enjoying yourself. Traveling at all? I just took a couple if weekends: one in beautiful Montreal and the other in crazy AC

message 18: by Pierre (new)

Pierre Great stuff! The family and I visited a buddy of mine in Montreal during the first week of my vacation. We'll be spending a few days in Quebec City, a few days in the Abitibi boonies (Val D'or) and maybe a trip to Toronto and Niagara. Just bouncing around the neighborhood (granted a pretty large one) depending on our mood and the weather. It is quite enjoyable. :-)

Pierre I rented a condo in Sea Isle, NJ, a few years ago. It was a great place for a family vacation. We took a day trip to Atlantic City. Unfortunately, when we got there, the city was wrapped in a thick fog that didn't let up until we had to leave. The kids didn't mind though when they discovered the giant candy store located there. They were in heaven and I went broke. :-)

Jason Parent | 123 comments Sounds fun! We ate so well in Montreal. And the camels we fed at this place near the border ate well too... Inside my car. So much fun. We went during a jazz festival

message 21: by Pierre (new)

Pierre Montreal has some great restaurants. Food is one of those things the Quebecois love and treasure, and I don't mean just poutine. :-) June, July and August are great to times to visit has the city goes from festival to another in practically non stop reveling.

The camels were probably at Parc Safari in Hemmingford. That is a great park to visit, especially with kids, but lots of fun for adults also.

message 22: by Jason (new)

Jason Parent | 123 comments It was Parc Safari. And we found a very quaint café in Hemmingford, just exploring that was excellent.

I hope to make it to the music festival in Quebec City in the next few years.

Pierre Definitely worth it with the big names Quebec City now succeeds in attracting. Quebec City is a gorgeous city. The old part of town is very old world in feel and architecture styles. The oldest sites are now over 400 years old. The citadel, Château Frontenac and the views from the old walls of the city are breathtaking. Ant the food... There must be at least two hundred restaurants to choose from in the upper city, the old city, and the gentrified lower city. Several 5 star restaurants that are among the best in Canada. I think you will love it if you visit. And if you are lucky, the Canadian dollar will keep going down against the Amrican dollar. :-)

Jason Parent | 123 comments You've sold me. I love the parts of Canada I've seen, such beautiful country, art and architecture.
