Here are a few more books but mainly WW2 based:
To Command the Sky: The Battle for Air Superiority Over Germany, 1942-1944 (Smithsonian History of Aviation and Spaceflight by Stephen L. McFarland
Strike from the Sky: The History of Battlefield Air Attack, 1911-1945 by Richard P. Hallion
BLANKETS OF FIRE by Kenneth P. Werrell
Maybe also this one but I have not read it so cannot give you much of an idea of how good it is:
The Age of Airpower by Martin van Creveld
"The Hundred Year Marathon" by Micheal Pillsbury"Love Me When I'm Gone: the true story of life, love and loss for a Green Beret in post-9/11 war" by me!
"Gates of Fire"
"Horse Soldiers"
"The Jedburghs"
One novel that you might include is Anton Myrer's
Great look at military leadership and what it is to be a leader rather than a manager.
It was on the PME reading list when I was in the 101st a life time ago :)
One outstanding combat memoir that is on a number of military reading lists is this excellent book:
House to House: An Epic Memoir of War by David Bellavia
A couple that might be of interest. The first book covers the Falkland Islands air war of 1982 which saw RAF Harriers and crews operating of air craft carriers in support of their Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm colleagues. The second is a good overall book on the Battle of Britain in 1940, which had a few US airman flying as volunteers in the RAF. I hope they are helpful.
Falklands, the Air War by Rodney A. Burden
The Narrow Margin: The Battle of Britain and the Rise of Air Power, 1930-1949 by Derek Wood
Air Commando One: Heinie Aderholt And America's Secret Air Wars; without a doubt. I'll second Aussie Rick's recommendation of The Age of Airpower as well; I was lucky enough to get a copy not long after it was published, and I thought it was excellent. Anything by Martin van Creveld is almost certainly going to be worth reading, and that one is just as good as anything he has written. Another good one would be Beyond the Wild Blue: A History of the U.S. Air Force, 1947-1997. I can't think of a better general history of the USAF (there is also a new edition of the book, Beyond the Wild Blue: A History of the U.S. Air Force, 1947-2007). The last one I can think of off the top of my head is Any Time, Any Place: Fifty years of the USAF Air Commando and Special Operations Forces, 1944-1994, which is worth reading also, particularly for those with an SOF orientation.
Hey there; My name is Artur Fidler and I am new one in the club. For all readers I would highly recommend for Military Professional Reading book Wild Heads of War. It tells the story of the events of Afghanistan in 2009. It is an entertaining story about the actions of NATO forces in Afghanistan, directed against global terrorism. I also invite you to my blog, which part I will running here on Goodreads and some on FB fanpage. I dedicated the book to my friend who was killed while serving in 2009 on NATO led-security mission. Could I recommend that for enlisted Airmen? Sure I do, highly recommend - Wild Heads of War.
