2017 Reading Challenge discussion

This folder is for a book that is dearly loved by a child or some other person younger than you.

Looks like you're on your own for this one as well! Though I suppose you could talk amongst yourselves and figure out who the young folks here are. But it might be fun to go talk to a kid.

Luckily, her reading tastes are somewhat similar to mine so I'll most likely enjoy her suggestion!

I'll probably get my youngest daughter to suggest something to me.

I work in an elementary school, and I often talk to the kids about books. One girl and I have similar tastes in YA books. She is a ferocious reader, and loves especially fantasy. She likes, for instance, Brandon Mull's Fabelhaven series, and she plowed through Michael Scott's series Secrets of NIcholas Flamel. (Feel free to use either series if you are looking for one. She highly recommends them.)

The challenge was for her to come up with a book I have not already read. Her suggestion to me was The Unwanteds. Again, feel free to use it. It is a recommendation from a 10 year old.

I am also happy to ask a random kiddo for a suggestion if anyone needs any other suggestion. They would come from 4th or 5th graders.

I asked my first niece for this recommendation and she recommended "Dear Daughter" by Elizabeth Little.

I looked that up and marked it as want to read. It is fantasy too.

Another student sent along her recommendation to this group. She is a 5th grader, and she suggested The Secret Garden. I might use this as a reread. I remember reading it as a girl, and loving it.

A friend's niece has suggested Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. I am not very sure yet

@Margo, I did not know it had been challenged. This has instantly made it more interesting!!

The Girl on the Train was read by a younger coworker. She said I would like it, I did enjoy it.

Hi, I'm 23 and I loved by Markus Zusak I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet and is older than 23!

Alternatively I really loved by John Marsden or if you're feeling really committed theres always by J.R.R. Tolkien

One my daughter's favorit author is Lars Kepler and she recommended to read Tuletunnistaja.

A young friend recommended Their Eyes Were Watching God. For me it was just OK.
