Highly recommend Brighton. Yes, it's a murder/suspense but sooo much more. Makes you think about family ties & how differently you perceive events from childhood when you look back with adult eyes.
I love Mick Herron's series. About MI5 agents that have royally screwed up so you have the spy vs. spy angle but it's the clever plotting & black humour that brings me back.
Ragdoll is not out til next year but I think it's going to be the huge seller of 2017. First time author (which is astounding!) got a 3 book deal with a major publisher based on draft of this one. If you enjoy Stuart MacBride, grab it.
Waiting for your list, Christine! Hope you're enjoying the holidays.
Yes, I was dying to get ahold of Ragdoll several weeks back, but NG had it for Canada and Europe, not US. I have MacBride's on my list. Will check out Brighton and Mick Herron's series. Thanks for the extra info, Sandy!

The best books i read this year and not only thrillers are:1. Void, I knew it would be in the list since i read it in January :)
2. The Beauty of the End, this was a surprise for me, it received a lot of low rating, but it still made it to this list. I think it is the kind of books you either Love or Hate.
3. The Forgotten Woman, my first Angela Marsons and i loved it
4. Dark Water
5. The Troubles Keeper
6. The Angel's Game, this was not published this year but this series is simply amazing!
7. Sisi: Empress on Her Own, The story of this empress always fascinated me and this book is the best account i've read about her.
8. Frayed, disturbing and touching Psychological thriller!
9. Elementary, She Read, the best cozy mystery of the year for me!
10. Far from the Madding Crowd, definitely not a thriller, but the style of Thomas Hardy is unique, at least for me :)
