Desley's 2016 Reading Challenge
Now that was classic: 2 again, one long, one short - Mary Poppins Collection, and Dracula's Guest2/2
Goodreads authorsDidn't do this last year, going for 20, even though there are 25 with what I have chosen so far
21/20
No of pagesGoing to go with 15,000 again, I might struggle this year, as I don't know if some of these years books are as long as last years.
10,925/15,000
Finished my first official book of the year, although my tracker and page count will be out. First book hit a few targets but wasn't my favourite Agatha Christie book unfortunately. I've got a good selection for this year, and can't decide what to read next!
Finished my first kindle book of the year, it was an OK read but the errors did get to me, so not sure what to do with the rest of the books from that author. I'm going to go with the number of books and pages off the trackers, then fix it at the end of the year - I think last year I remembered the pages, but not the number of books.
Would the author appreciate your feedback, Desley? Privately, of course. You could be the making of a better author!
Woo! Good luck Desley. I am going to try read some classics too this year. I don't have high hopes but I'll try lol
Finished a very short book The Office Idiot Reviews - not the kind of thing I normally go for, and not sure when I downloaded it, but entertaining and good for dipping in and out of. Liked the style of the book being written in reviews, some were hilarious.
Well, I've started the year off rather well, finished another book yesterday - really enjoyed it but again had to knock a star off because of punctuation issues. The Abduction of Mary Rose
Elle wrote: "Yay go Desley. Start of as you mean to go on and all that."Let's hope so, I had a few appointments last week which helped
Another book finished, I'm getting a bit disappointed with my John Grisham choices, last one I didn't finish, and this was a YA book that was OK. Must get a copy of Sycamore Row for next year. Struggling with Words to the Wise as well, I think it's a book you really need to focus on, and I was busy last week, new foster cat loves to sit on your knee though, so hopefully will get to get into it.
2 books ahead though
I stopped reading John Grisham ages ago, his stories stopped gripping me. It was when he wrote the one based on a real case (I think) and he started collaborating with others as well. I have to admit I am not a fan of author collaboration, I went of James Patterson when he started doing it.
My Brother is obsessed with Grisham so I have loads on my Kindle. Any ones you would recommend as a first read?
A Time to Kill is probably his most popular, it was the first one I read but I loved The Runaway Jury (seeing the list below I'm now not sure if it was the Runaway Jury or the Street Lawyer I particularly loved... or maybe both).I recommend these ones as well
The Firm
The Pelican Brief
The Client
The Chamber
The Rainmaker
The Partner
The Street Lawyer
The Testament
The Brethren
The Summons
The Last Juror
p.s. sorry for hijacking your challenge thread Desley
No worries Jud - I have read most of those (and own a fair few of them, although I lent some out and never got them back). I do like A Time To Kill, the plan this year is to search charity shops for Sycamore Row. A few of his have been made into films Elle, so you may have seen some - can only think of The Pelican Brief and A Time to Kill - I have a film called The Client, but don't know if it's based on his book. The Firm has also been made into a TV series.
Finished my first non-fiction book of the year, wasn't very good - I appreciate unsolved crimes are hard to write about, but wasn't impressed.
Aw that's a shame.I am very picky when it comes to reading true life crime books. They are very hard to write about.

Maybe I should start being picky
Finished 3 books this week, one was started last year though!! I made the mistake of reading reviews about one of the books I read, as I thought it was non-fiction, to seemingly discover it was written to tie in with the film, so not going to count that or my real non-fiction book as new authors. I did really enjoy Endurance though, looking forward to reading his others.
Finished a short story collection of cat stories, really enjoyed it although there was a lot of religious references
Another book finished - this was billed as a medical mystery, but a lot of religion in it, so only gave it 3 stars. Really need to read some doorstoppers, am behind on my word count.
I need to get back to doorstop number 3 in the Robin Hobb Liveship's trilogy before I forget what happened in the rest of it! Have been rather daunted though, as I'm liking these shorter easy reads I can zip through.
Finished another new book, Dead World by Shaun Jeffrey, not sure about it. Started my first Doorstep of the year, must be the first Stephen King book in a while that hasn't been!!
Finished two books this week - one was only a short novella but the subject matter meant I struggled with it, the second was also fairly short and I read most of it in a day . Now started my first classic of the year, which fortunately also happens to be a doorstep, so have two of them on the go.
Pam wrote: "Good for you Desley. I'm reading 2 at present and have started 2 more...."I've only got two on the go at the moment, I seem to be ahead on my challenge though, even though one of my books is over 500 pages its a quick read so may get to finish it
Well done. I still haven't got back to the doorstep I should be reading (Robin Hobb). I find her endings rushed too funnily enough.
Phew, finally finished my first classic of the year, seems to have taken ages to get through!! Also hits a few other targets, but think i'm behind on my page numbers. Also behind on number of books, but have a flight and travelling next month, plus a hairdresser appointment, so hopefully will be able to catch up.
Finished a book in one day, lovely feeling. As I've only read one of hers before, I'm not classing it as a favourite author. Enjoyable book. Am also halfway through a couple of targets, so should hopefully meet those, a couple of others are looking hard though.
Just finished Gray Justice, really thought provoking book, nearly a 5* book. Need to start some doorstops, to hit both that target and my page number target, think I'm on track for everything else. Didn't get that much reading time on my weekend away, but got a hairdresser appointment this week, so hoping to finish one of the two books on the go, as I'm only on target, need to get ahead.
