Shane let out an impatient sigh. "Shane Gold," he said to the school secretary for the third time. "I just transferred here and all of my old records should have been sent from Arbor High.""Oh, here we go," the secretary said, finding his records. Shane grunted in response and mumbled a thanks after she finally printed off his schedule and handed it to him. He ignored the students that were side stepping out of his way as he walked down the hall and found his locker. He knew he could appear a little frightening, but he didn't think anyone should be scared.
Shane found his locker and after a couple of tries, managed to get it open. He shoved everything in except for one note book which would be for English, his first class. He had always hated English, but at least it was something laid back. He wished he didn't have to be there at all, but continuing with school was one of the terms for his probation after his last fight. He'd been beat up pretty bad, put in the hospital for days. But the other guy was worse. Which is why after his appearance in court, Shane was sentenced to a year's probation. He had to go to school, live with new foster parents, and stay away from drugs and alcohol which wouldn't be hard considering he gave then up when he realized that they were never going to fill the emptiness inside of him.
Shane had been looking over the rest of his schedule when he felt someone run into him. He thought it was probably some asshole doing it on purpose because he was the new kid. "Why don't you watch where the f*ck you're going?" he said as he turned to face them. He felt bad when he saw not some random jerk, but a girl bending down to pick up her stuff. He bent down and gathered the rest of the papers before standing up to hand them to her. He froze when he saw who he thought was Colbie standing right in front of him. No way, he thought. That can't possibly be her.
Nope, definitely not her, he thought. He knew that Colbie would never talk to him like that. Unless she didn't recognize him, but he didn't want to make any assumptions. He clenched his jaw and narrowed his eyes at the girl, trying to keep calm. "Are you always such a ray of sunshine?" he asked her sarcastically.
He leaned in close to her looking into her eyes with his dark ones. "You know, you're not the only one with a shitty family, so maybe you're the one that should be shutting up," he hissed. He leaned back. "As for my name..." he began. "I'll let you figure that one out on your own." He slammed his locker and walked down the hallway. He knew now that there was no way that was Colbie. It just couldn't be. And he wasn't about to let anyone else into his life besides her. That girl would figure out his name soon enough anyway. It was probably all over the school considering he was the new kid in a small town.
By the time Shane got to English, all of the seats were taken except for one in the front. He sighed and sat in the desk, keeping his head down. He heard numerous whispers from around the room, and even some giggles. He didn't pay any attention to them or to the teacher who came in and started teaching. All he could think about was how much that girl had reminded him of Colbie. It was like he had been so close to finally having her in his life again and then she was ripped away, just like that.
Before Shane knew it, the bell rang. He pulled out his schedule and saw that he had study hall next. He made his way through the hall, trying to avoid coming into contact with anybody. He didn't need a repeat of what happened that morning with that girl. He slipped into the library which was where study hall was and was grateful when there was an empty table in the back. The rest of the tables were full of students gossiping, sleeping, and doing anything except for their homework.
Shane's eyes shifted from his book to meet the girl's and then back down to the homework he was working on. He wasn't going to say anything, but there was just something about her that was so familiar, even if she wasn't Colbie. "Couldn't stay away?" he asked flatly. "Or were you hoping to cuss me out again?" he fixed his gaze on her.
Shane tapped his pencil on the table and looked around the room, before focusing back on her. His first instinct was telling him to stop talking, to shut down. But his heart was telling him otherwise. "You know," he started. "It's a shame you don't have friends here. I mean, you're just so approachable," he said, a hint of a smile showing in his eyes. He sat quiet, studying her before he spoke again. "And I'd tell you my name," he said closing his book, not removing his eyes from hers. "But I think you already know what it is."
Shane was almost positive this was Colbie. He couldn't get too excited about it though. He wasn't going to take his guard down just for him to be disappointed again. "First guess," he said, raising his eyebrows, acting impressed. "The name's Harry Shaw," he said as convincingly as he could. He wanted to see her reaction.
So it was her. Shane could feel his heartbeat picking up it's pace. He couldn't believe it. He shifted in his seat, tilting his head slightly to the side and leaning towards her. "What makes you say that?" he asked, his lips curving into a smile.
Shane smiled and shook his head. "I like my hair," he ran a hand through it, making it messier. "And I'm not the only one who hasn't changed much. You've still got the same fiery personality and shining eyes," he said. "Headstrong as ever," he smirked.
Shane got a distant look in his eye. As much as he wanted to tell Colbie everything that had happened, he just couldn't. Not yet. "Let's save this conversation for later," he said, his voice low. He looked over Colbie's shoulder and noticed a guy staring at them. No, not staring, glaring. As if Shane was trespassing onto his territory. Shane narrowed his eyes at him and then looked back at Colbie. "Who's that?" he asked her.
Shane looked back over at Sam until he stopped glaring at them. He focused back on Colbie. He could tell she didn't want to talk about it, so he didn't push it any further. He didn't know why, but he could tell he was going to have a problem with Sam. There was just something about him that put Shane on edge and he didn't like it at all.((Hey, sorry I just disappeared earlier! I was really into our rp and I lost track of time, so I had I scramble to get ready for this thing at school XD I was thinking that maybe Shane and Sam should be step brothers. Because when Shane's mother left him and his dad, she could have married Sam's dad? But neither one of them would know of course and then that could come out later))
((Like to try to get her to come home with him or something? And then getting really mad when she refuses? Yeah, I'll be Sam :D BRING ON THE DRAMA XD))Shane stood, and gathered his things taking his time. "I'm not scared of him," he said. "And you shouldn't be either." He started walking to the door with her. "I gotta check in and take care of some stuff at the office. I'll see you in the cafeteria?"
Sam waited for Shane to disappear and then stepped into Colbie's path when she wasn't expecting it. "Hey babe," he smiled, turning up the fake charm. "Who's your new friend?"(Yeah! What a loser XD)
He stepped in front of her again. "You know, I've been thinking," he said. "And I feel really bad about hooking up with Mel at that party," he reached for her hand as he moved his lips to her ear. "Let's give it another chance. Come home with me right now, and I'll show you how much I still love you," he kissed below her ear softly.
He grabbed her arm with a strong grip. "You know, Colbie, If I were you I'd reconsider that answer," he growled in her ear.Shane finished checking in at the office and left to find Colbie.
Sam smiled. "You always did think you were stronger than me," he said. "But I'll tell you this Colbie. I'm going to get what I want from you one way or the other. You're either going to give it to me or I'm gonna-""Let her go," Shane interrupted from behind them. To everyone else, he would seem cool and collected, but inside, he was boiling with anger.
Shane took a few slow steps towards them, eyeing Sam's grip on Colbie's arm. "I'm not going to ask you again," Shane said, clenching his fists, trying to calm down. He knew how much trouble he would be in for getting in a fight, but it was worth it to protect Colbie.Sam glared at him and let go of Colbie's arm, shoving her away in the process.
Sam stepped closer so that he was right in Shane's face while Shane stood still as a stone. At this point Shane was struggling to keep calm and it wasn't working out very well. He clenched his jaw as he and Sam glared at each other. Sam chuckled. "It's kinda funny," he said. "How you think you want my leftovers. But just remember this, pretty boy. I got a piece of that ass first," he nodded to Colbie. "And you'll never be able to erase all the times we-" Shane grabbed Sam's shirt and slammed him hard against the lockers, forcing his forearm on Sam's throat. "How about you just remember this," he spat. "If you come anywhere near Colbie or talk shit about her again, I will fuck you up. Do you understand?" Sam started to laugh. Shane pulled him away from the locker and slammed him against it again. "Do you understand?" He growled."Yeah, I understand," Sam spat, shoving Shane away. Shane backed up and put his hand on the small of Colbie's back. "Let's go," he said.
"Don't be," he said, turning to her. "That guy's just some asshole who's trying to get what he wants. You stood your ground and he didn't like it, so he tried to piss me off instead because he knew he could." He sighed. "I'm sorry about what he said," Shane looked at her.
He smiled sadly, looking at her arm. "I have chemistry next," he said. "Are you going to be okay?" He asked her, concern in his eyes. He knew that she was strong enough to be okay, but he also knew that being strong for too long can kill a person on the inside.
Shane looked away, remembering how her father had always abused her. He knew what it was like to be abused and he had so much hate for both of their fathers. He took her arm in his hands, holding it softly and checking it for marks. "That bastard," he muttered under his breath, referring to Sam.
"You will be," he nodded in agreement. "Because you're the strongest, most badass girl I know," he said with the hint of a smile.((I have to go to bed. Be back tomorrow))
Shane started walking again. "It's true," he said. "I've never met another girl who can break a guy's nose in one swing. You remember that?" He asked. "I think we were about ten. We found that baby bird that had fallen out if it's nest and when Luke from down the street tried to kill it, you just decked him," Shane chuckled. "I, on the other hand, just look badass," he said.
Shane chuckled. "Well, Jaime had it coming," he smirked. "I guess you're right," he smiled. "We're both badass."
Shane leaned back. "I was," he said. "Until I uh, ended up in the hospital," he scratched the back of his neck. "And then had to go to court."
"It's okay," Shane said, squezzing her hand. "You should have seen the other guy," he smirked. "But the whole court thing," he shook his head. "They went easy on me because I was still seventeen at the time. I'm just kind of on probation right now," he shrugged. "What happened with you?" he asked, beginning to take notes as well.
Shane nodded slowly. That worthless piece of shit, He thought about her dad. He stared at the page in his notebook, thinking. He hated her dad so much. Even more than his own. Although both of them deserved to die. (Okay XD)
He sighed and locked his eyes with hers. "He better not," he said quietly. "He better not touch you. Ever." Or I'll kill the bastard, he added in his head. He clenched his jaw.
He looked into her icy blue eyes for a couple minutes before answering. "I will," he assured her. "I'm not going to stand by and let anyone hurt you, okay? I know you can handle things by yourself because you have so much strength inside of you. But I'm right here and I will be no matter what. I'm not going to risk losing you again."
He matched her smile. "And I always will," he promised. "You're my best friend, and all those years without you..." He shook his head. "They killed me. I've never been more happy in my life than when I realized who you were," he squeezed her hand.
Shane stood up, moving towards the door. There was one period left. Today had gone way better than he ever would have expected and he felt more happy then he had in years. Sure, he had almost been in a fight, but it was worth it. Colbie was always worth it to him.
"Music, I think," he said, opening his locker and putting his books in it. He pulled out his schedule and glanced at it, before looking back at her. "Yeah, I've got music," he smiled.
He smiled. "We are definitely hanging out after school," he said. "I don't even want to leave your side," he looked at her. "I have so much to tell you."
"It's probably not a very good idea for me to go to your house anyway," Shane said, thinking about how much he wanted to hurt Colbie's dad as much as he had hurt her. Shane thought about his foster parents. They were pretty cool and they probably wouldn't mind Colbie coming over. She might be a little confused at first that he wasn't living with his real parents, but he was going to explain all that anyway. "Let's go to my house," he suggested.
He nodded. "Yeah, see you," he turned and walked to class. He felt kind of weird going to class without Colbie since they had been together all day after first period. It was almost like he felt he was going to lose her again. But he knew that he wasn't and he smiled at the thought, glad to finally have her back in his life again.
Shane sat through class and was surprisingly able to pay attention. Probably because he loved music so much. He looked at the cock and noticed that school would be over in a few minutes, meaning he would see Colbie again. He finished up the bit of work he had just before the bell rang.
Shane finished up at his locker and saw Colbie walking over to him. He started to walk towards her too, meeting her in the middle of the hallway. "How was art?" He asked her.
"It was great," he said, shrugging his backpack onto his shoulders. He ignored the stares they were getting from students as they passed. Surely there were all kinds of rumors spreading already. But Shane didn't care.
Shane walked along with her, leading her to his car. "I would hope not," he smirked and raised an eyebrow. "But you'll see," he said. He didn't want to tell her yet because he didn't want her to not believe him or to freak. His foster parents had a good amount of money and because of this they lived in a pretty fancy neighborhood.
He got in and chuckled, pulling out of the parking lot. He drove down the street and when he was almost to his neighborhood, he glanced over at her. "Can you promise me that you won't freak out?" he asked before he turned into the neighborhood. "I'll explain this all once we get there."
"Thanks," he sighed. He pulled into his driveway and cut the ignition. He noticed his foster mother's car in the driveway so he would have to introduce her to Colbie. He figured his foster father must still be at work. "Okay," he said. "I'm going to introduce you to my...foster mom..." he said. "So just uh, follow my lead," he watched for her reaction.
"Yeah, she's really nice," he smiled. "So is my foster dad," he said. "They're both really cool," he walked with her to the door and opened it, letting her walk in first. "I'm still getting used to it though."
"So far," he smiled faintly. He was happy to live in such a nice house with such nice people, but he knew not to get his hopes up. Nothing good in his life ever lasted. "C'mon," he said, hearing dishes being clanked in the kitchen and leading her there. "Julia?" He called as he walked through the doorway. "Hi, Shane," she smiled brightly. "How was your first day?" She asked before she saw Colbie walk in behind him. "Oh, hi!" She directed her smile at Colbie. "Julia, this is Colbie. Colbie, this is Julia," Shane introduced them.
"Nice to meet you as well," Julia said cheerfully, drying her hands on a towel. "I'm glad you made a friend on your first day," she smiled at Shane. He didn't mention that he and Colbie already knew each other. He didn't want to have to explain everything to Julia right now. "Thanks," Shane said. "We're just gonna be up in my room if you need us," he said, moving towards the stairs. Julia looked a little hesitant, but then she smiled and said, "Okay."
Shane shook his head and sat on the edge of his bed. "No," he said. "I don't need time." He looked around at the unpacked boxes on his floor. "Sorry about the mess. I haven't really had the time to unpack." He went over to one if the boxes and bent down, rifling through it until he pulled out a piece of folded up paper. "Remember this?" He smiled and handed it to her. It was a drawing she had done of them years ago, before she moved. Shane had found it when he was packing up his old room.
