What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

A children's picture book about a girl and a squirrel(I'm sure it's a squirrel) and a treehouse/swing, and the squirrel falls and breaks its leg? The illustrations were drawn, coloured with perhaps pencil/watercolour.
I read this as a kid maybe early 2000's and I only read it once but I can't find it again.
I don't remember the book as very old, probably published after early '90s.

Tesh, could did the squirrel talk? Could it talk to the girl?

What happens after the squirrel breaks its leg? Does the girl nurse it back to health?

Kris - thanks for the suggestion but no, that's not it. The illustrations were a bit less cartoony, too.

Tab - The girl and the squirrel were friends, but I have no definite memory that the squirrel talked. I think the girl did bandage the squirrel's leg and help it get better.
