Viviana | 4 comments I finished reading the book and I loved it. The ending however, was not how I expected, but overall I rated it a 5 star. In the book Marcus mother, Fiona, demonstrates how depress she is that she wanted to take her own life without thinking how it would affect the people around her in this case her 12 year old son, Marcus. Her actions caused a new view for Marcus of living and affected how he acts, and is. I believe the way one chooses and sees their lives does not only affect oneself but others too.

What does the author say about depression and how people find meaning in their lives?

Alina Jimenez | 3 comments What I think the author says about depression is that even if you have people you love a person can still feel lonely. Because Fiona had Marcus her son and she loved him but she still lonely. And I guess people find meaning in their life when they find someone their care about.

Amira Daoud | 4 comments Hey Viviana,

I feel like Nick Hornby depicts that helping trying to help depressed people, like asking them whats wrong actually makes their depression worse. I feel like in order for the depressed to be cured he/she has to see a point to life that is not that obvious. Like Fiona would have never expected to see Marcus in prison and I believe it woke her up and gave her something more important to live for. I believe that people cure their own depression by the people around them.
