I didn't think I would like this book because I felt that the subject matter was too dark for me. The loss of an entire family in a house fire the night before the daughter's wedding just seemed like a tradegy too painful for a novel. However, six chapters (?) in and I love the writing, the voices of the different characters and the unfolding of the story through their perspectives of what has happened. Thanks for picking Did You Ever Have a Family as the January read.

I have to say I was blown away by the simplicity of the writing and the profound questions it asks.
This isn't a super spoiler heavy book, but since there are one or two twists, I've set up a spoiler thread (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...).
I actually read this through twice because it moved me that much. A dark topic that the author wove seamlessly into a spiderweb that connected all the perspectives, even a few that seemed trivial and were only addressed once. A very powerful book.
I didn't fancy this one at first, but after seeing some of your reviews I changed my mind. I still haven't bought it tho as I think it way overpriced on kindle - £9. I'm such a cheapskate LOL
I was thinking the same margo but it's because it's a pretty new release. I generally don't buy new ones but this comes with high praise and I'm hoping to read as many of the monthly reads as I can this year as I slacked a bit last year with them.
