Hi everyone! It's the start of a new year and so I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and have a marvellous new year. As a part of that we do need to decide on the books we would like to read in February alongside Orb Sceptre Throne by Esslemont (the continued Malazan book).

February is a SCI-FI month so please only nominate sci-fi books. Feel free to suggest as many as you like and if you see any which have been suggested by others and which you enjoy then please express your interest in reading that below by 'seconding' it! Please only nominate a sequel if the group has already read the fist book together, otherwise make sure it's a standalone or the first in a series.

Thank you all so much for making this group so much fun for me to manage! Happy reading and I look forward to all the suggestions!!

Please remember it's a SCI-FI month so only Sci-Fi books will be added to the poll :)

Maybe too much on the fantasy side?

message 15: by Michael (last edited Jan 06, 2016 02:50PM) (new)

Michael (michaeldixon) | 60 comments Kind of a blurry line between Fantasy and Sci-fi, but what about:
(note I edited this comment to remove the nomination of retribution falls since this is more fantasy than sci-fi)

For a more traditional nomination, what about:
Old Man's War (Old Man's War, #1) by John Scalzi

I think I'd personally class Retribution Falls more as fantasy as it has echoes of sword and sorcery in my mind, but I will say it's a fabulous choice had it been a fantasy month (maybe save it for the next nomination thread)

Fair enough, I knew it was a fine line kind of thing - I will throw it out for March.

Hi everyone! Thank you all for the nominations. The top #3 were:

The Mote In God's Eye
Anathem
Old Man's War

So I shall be making a poll to choose between those three now. Please don't nominate anything else in this thread as it won't be counted!
