We are going to do 4 Seasonal Challenges this year. Since it is Winter we will start with that one. Winter ends in February ( or around there somewhere) so this challenge will go from now until the end of February. ***UPDATE, THIS CHALLENGE WILL BE OPEN UNTIL MARCH 19TH. ***

Here is the themes you can choose books from for this challenge. How many do you plan on reading?

* Older people are said to be "in the winter of there lives" so read a book centering around an older couple.

* The weather is often unpredictable in the winter but read a book about snow bound people or revolving around snow or ice impacting them.

*Read a book that has to do with skiing or ice skating, snow ball fights, school snow days

* In mythology winter is said to be when Persephone spends time in the underworld, read a book where this comes into play.

*cover is or has a picture: white, fire , snow, scarf, coats, snowballs, sledding

Lea Ann (buntingla) | 778 comments * Older people are said to be "in the winter of there lives" so read a book centering around an older couple. The Widows' Adventures by Charles Dickinson This book centers around two sisters, both widows. As they grapple with old age, a crumbling neighborhood, and strained relationships with children, they decide to go on a grand adventure that will change their lives in ways they could have never imagined. Great read!

May B. by Caroline Starr Rose The main character has to survive on her own in a sod house on the prairie frontier after getting snowed in during a blizzard.

Hollow City (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #2) by Ransom Riggs Oddly enough, in this book there is a climactic scene in an ice-covered building created by a girl who generates ice with just her touch.

*Read a book that has to do with skiing or ice skating, snow ball fights, school snow days Sharpshooter (Vietnam, #2) by Chris Lynch In this book, the main character retells a scene about falling through the ice while ice skating and being saved by a friend. It figures prominently in the beginning of the book.

* In mythology winter is said to be when Persephone spends time in the underworld, read a book where this comes into play.

*cover is or has a picture: white, fire , snow, scarf, coats, snowballs, sledding Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt Boy walking in the snow on the cover.

Lea Ann (buntingla) | 778 comments So far I have two books that tied into this, but sadly in the same category.

Lea Ann (buntingla) | 778 comments I've just started The Widows' Adventures about two widows - in the winter of their lives - and their adventure across the U.S. Hoping to cross a few more off of this challenge.

Lea Ann (buntingla) | 778 comments Finished The Widows' Adventures for the "winter of their lives" category. Wonderful story. See my edited list here for more info.

This week I should also finish a book at school where an ice skating incident was featured prominently in the story.
